AE not exporting to AME

I can't get AE to export to AME. Nothing happens at all. AME doesn't open and when I open it manually the comp doesn't transfer to the program. Another problem I'm having is when I render inside AE the file is gigantic. I have exported files before that were in the MB's but this latest video I rendered inside AE was over 5gb. I'm very curious about what the problem is. There is no update waiting to be had either.

EDIT: I'm trying to render to AVI if that matters.

AVI files can be huge. Just to make sure I read your last post correctly, both After Effects and Media Encoder are the same version or up to date? (That's usually the problem.)

Yes, they are the same version.

If you made sure that you are on the same version (or to be more specific on the same release) with AE and AME and your composition is not transfering to AME (sometimes you have to wait a bit) you can try:
a) opening AME and just drag n drop your AE project to AME and if that opens - just chose composition that you need to render
b) open AME and try to open AE project by going to File/Import (open)

If you are on windows you could try to restart your workstation, open AE and try to export to AME. Sometimes process responsible for exporting AE with AME called dynamic link can freeze in windows process manager and only manual closing or PC restart helps.

As for exporting from AE you can chose - for smalle file size - Quick Time/Animation format. File will be still big but smaller than straight AVI. Or you can instal and use one of pro intermediate formats as ProRes, Cineform, DNxHD. After that import that file to AME and render to whatever you wish (i guess it would be mp4/h264).

Another thing I forgot to mention is that the video in question is a previously made video that I just changed the final 3 seconds of. I did not add any time to the video with the change. The length is still the same, just a different ending. The export settings are exactly the same as well. The video with the previous ending video is 30mb. The new one is over 1gb. I've since reset the computer and it still is doing it.

AE is now exporting to AME after the computer reset so that problem is solved.

EDIT: Quicktime saves the video size as 700mb so it's smaller but still way too big.

EDIT 2: So I just realized that the original file was saved in MP4 format which is obviously smaller file size. For some reason, I thought I needed transparency in this video so I went with AVI. It does not have any transparent part which is why it was MP4, to begin with. Thank you for trying to help.
