This seems so random - starts rendering multiple AMEs - or just the one.
All the cpus up to max, then drops to3% and the render just sits there doing nothing.
This seems like a legacy problem, it's also happening with the ME M1 Beta.
If I quit ME it's hangs and have to force quit.
If I force quit aerendercore it resatrts and will start rendering again but causes audio problems.
Running on MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) 32GB

Hi there,
We're sorry about the poor experience. Is this happening with any specific project or all the projects? Also, let us know the version of After Effects & Media Encoder that you are using.
Thanks,
Sumeet

Hi - project wise, no, just stops.
This has been happening through various versions of AE and ME. Currently occours using AE 22.1.1 and 22.1.1 and AE Beta 22.3 and ME Beta 22.3.
Sometimes stops after encoding a set of comps then stop. Re-encoding that same comp may or may not work. Sometimes restarting the Mac helps.
I initially thought it might be a hardware problem but this has occoured using my new Mac (MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021)). Previous Mac was an iMac (early 2017) and I came across this problem, though not as frequent on a Macbook Pro (2012 - i think)

This is happening to me as well and it's really causing me issues. Any fixes that you've found?

Hi Ambrose - I'm afraid not. Not been doing many AE projects recently thoiugh so I can't report if any of the recent updates has resovled this.

I am having the same problem of Media Encoder freezing while encoding an After Effects project in H.264 using GPU acceleration. I made a few changes to my After Effects project that had previously worked fine and completed in five hours. After my changes it randomly freezes several hours into encoding. I have allowed the frozen process to sit for many hours. It is definitely frozen.
I am using After Effects version 22.2.0 and Media Encoder version 22.2. I just tried force quitting aerendercore and the frozen Media Encoder task is making progress again. In a few hours I will (likely) discover that it has an audio glitch at the point where I killed the frozen process.

Thanks. I'll update now. I had followed all the other superstitious advice on the web, but none of it worked. It either hangs or I get an error like this at completely arbitrary time offsets.

Updating to 22.3 did not solve the problem. It still hangs at seemingly random times. It has been stuck at 23:30 for about 30 minutes now.
As a workaround, I'm going to try killing aerendercore and let it restart. It will create a gap in audio, but it might be faster to try and fixup the bad audio than to keep starting over with a very long task.

I saved the project again using AE 22.3 and tried another pass at Media Encoder. SUCCESS!
Here is the amazing part. Instead of a 5 hour task Media Encoder now performs the work in 46 minutes!! Amazing!

I have the same issue throughout the past few versions of AE and Media Encoder. Completely random. Tried every solution i've come to know over the past 20 plus years. It sucks big time.
Occasionally it works again for some time, then the problem arises again. I do dig deep to find the core of a problem but i am completely lost on this one. It's pure lottery.
Any permanent solution is very welcome. It costs me a shitload of time and money, not to forget nerves.
