Media encoder 25 not connecting to project

Since I updated to the newest version of After Effects and Media encoder, AE won't send files to Media encoder anymore. I'm working on a windows pc.

So whenever I'm trying to export a video from after effects via media encoder it won't work (same for Premiere pro). I tried dragging it into media encoder, opening the project in media encoder it self. The problem when it's finally in media encoder is that it won't connect to the project anymore.

Sometimes it works whenever I change the output from H264 to something else and back. Then it starts connecting, this is a work around that has like 25% succes rate. Most of the times it worked was when I made a new project in AE25 and not converting an old file from 24. I also tried exporting it via Media encoder on antoher pc, but with no succes. It has the same problem.

Is there anyway I can fix this? I have tried multiple solutions I found on the Internet / Adobe website but with no succes. The only thing working is exporting through the render queue in AE itself, but this prevents me on working on other projects whenever something is exporting, wasting time.

I just did a quick test using Adobe After Effects 25.0.1.2 and Adobe Media Encoder 25.0.0.54. Created a comp. Sent it to AME using "Comp" > "Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue…". In AME, started the queue and verified the result.

This was on Surface Book3 and Windows 11. Can you send me your specs (OS, CPU, GPU, memory)?

Hi,

I am using a windows 11 pc.

These are the specs:

CPU:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

GPU:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

Motherboard:

Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO

RAM:

4 x G.Skill F4-3600C16-16GVKC DDR4 sticks

Storage:

Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB

Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB

Samsung SSD980 PRO 1TB

I would like to add that when I first downloaded AME 25 and AE25 this worked perfectly, but after a few days this problem occured. I've been searching for possible solutions, but with no result. I updated to the newest version of AE 25 and the problem still occurs.

I Have already tried:

  • cleaning the caches and purging them for both AE and AME
  • reset the preferences to default
  • reinstalling both AE and AME
  • Restarting pc
  • Following the steps from this article:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/kb/after-effects-composition-export-error.html
  • Updating all drivers on my pc
  • Dragging in the comp manually in AME
  • Opening the comp via the media browser in AME, but it couldn't connect either
  • First adding the comp to the render queue in AE and then sending it to AME
  • Allowing AE25 and AME25 through the windows defender firewall

All with no succes. I hope this helps.

It seems you have already tried most of the standard hints that I would give first.

Here are a couple of more: Do you have any antivirus software installed? Do you have Windows Firewall turned on? Did you launch AME first before sending the AE comp?

There is no antivirus software installed. I tried turning off windows firewall and sending a comp to AME, but this didn't work either. So I tried restarting with Windows Firewall off so it would maybe do something, but same result it still wouldn't send the comp to AME. For the last one, I tried opening AME before sending a comp, no succes either.

I also tried opening AME before AE, but it still doens't send the comp and if it sends it it won't connect to the project. I also tried restarting my pc, opening AME first and then opening AE. This sent the comp to AME and could connect, however when I close the project in AE and reopen it later for changing some feedback for example. It won't send it anymore and it doesn't work anymore. This could be a work around that sometimes works, but I have to work on multiple projects so it would be a lot of restarting which isn't the best solution.

I am very sorry for your issues. I'll get in touch with the After Effects Team about this.
