Media Encoding is Crashing on Export v25.4.1

Community Beginner ,

I've been attempting to export a project for a couple of days. I first thought it was a corrupt asset in Premiere, but now I think it's the Media Encoder app. I've uninstalled the app, cleaned the cache, and reset the preferences. Nothing has worked. However, I can break it up into 2 segments and sucessfully export it. Note: I went back and attempted to export some older projects that I had successfully exported in the past and Media Encoder still froze up. Last thing to mention, I attempted to export directly out of Premiere to the built in encoder and it still freezes up.

I need some direction.

Thanks

Hi Doug28804449vxul,

We're sorry about the poor experience. We're investigating a similar issue in the latest version, where rendering or exporting might increase memory usage and cause the app to freeze. Can you please confirm if you are noticing any spike in memory utilization in Task Manager/Activity Monitor?

Thanks,

Sumeet

Thanks for the follow up.
I will have to check to see if I’m getting a memory spike. FYI, I was able to render a project this morning using the H.265 codec verses the H.264. I will do some testing later today.

Thanks for the update! Glad to hear that H.265 codec worked for the render. When you have a chance, let us know your findings and if you notice any patterns with the memory usage.

I tried another pass with H.265 and media encoder crashed. Here is a snapshot of the activity monitor.Screenshot 2025-08-28 at 10.33.35 AM.png

If possible, for testing purposes, please try exporting from Premiere Pro v25.3/Media Encoder v25.3 & let us know if it works properly. It will help us isolate if this issue is similar to the one that we're investigating,

Thanks,

Sumeet

Changed both programs to v25.3 and the render was successful!

I had the similar problem with 25.4.1 version. Switching to 25.3 helped.

LATEST

I've had zero issues since reverting to 25.3 in both apps.
