"Creating Queue Items from Project" Suddenly Quickly Using up ALL 64GB Of Memory

Explorer ,
Apr 19, 2023 Apr 19, 2023

I have been successfully using Clips Exporter for several months as a quick and convenient way to export multiple clips with the exported file name being the name of the clip – but a major problem has occurred in the last few days between Premier Pro 2023 and Media Encoder 2023.

Now, when I export more than 10-15 clips at the same time, my Windows 11 system memory usage goes from about 45% to 100% until Premiere Pro crashes due to memory problems caused by memory usage at 100%.

This only happens when I export to AME. If I export to Premiere Pro directly there's no problem. This means I have a clumsy workaround – but not having AME is a MAJOR impact on productivity!

Memory usage for all Adobe products is set to 50% of my available 64GB of memory. Clearly, this limit has been exceeded since running this software combination is using up ALL 64 GB of memory. I've also had the memory usage for all Adobe products set to 75% and had the same problem.

In the past, I have easily been able to export over 100 clips at one time and I know of no changes to settings in any of the three software packages that would be causing this problem.

Every time the AME screen flashes with "Creating Queue Items from Project," 3-7% of additional memory is used. I believe this message is flashed every time a new clip is queued to AME.

I contacted the author of Clips Exporter and, unfortunately, just got an unhelpful finger pointed toward AME or Premiere Pro being the problem.

Again, this problem just started the past couple of days and in all likelihood, it is some kind of cockpit error on my part where I have done something to a setting in either Premiere Pro or Media Encoder – but I'm clueless as to what to do next since I think I've already gone back and changed anything that could be a root cause.

Solutions?

Thanks,

Robert

Can you toggle "Import sequences natively" and let me know if this changes anything?

Thanks very much for your suggestion… Greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I had already tried that with great expectations but there is no detectable difference in the way all the RAM is quickly eaten up to 100% of the 64 GB – irrespective of the 50% of RAM memory Adobe throttle I have under preferences.

I'm still convinced I screwed something up because this was working fine for months – and your suggestion would've been an easy thing I might have screwed up.

Sunday I had not yet mentioned is my graphics card is the Nvidia GeForce 1080ti. Same video card when I was working – and still the same video card now that I somehow created Pac-Man for memory!

Other ideas? Thoughts? Ouija board interpretations?

Robert

So sorry to hear that. Do you have another machine to see if it is macine specific?

I only have Adobe installed on one machine… But I did reinstall the very latest version of both AME 2023 and Premier Pro 2023 but still no joy with Clips Exporter…

It's really too bad because Clips Exporter was working so fantastic before just a few weeks ago and can easily handle exporting well over 100 clips at one time without bogging down AME.

Too bad the developer of Clips Exporter is just pointing fingers at the Adobe products instead of trying to come up with a resolution for this newly developed problem.

Hi Robert

Henrique here from TMMW, the developer of Clips Exporter.

The last update of Clips Exporter was released on Jan 16th.

You are welcome to try the previous versions if you believe the issue is with Clips Exporter and

with the latest version.

You can also from this same project you are having issues with, send your sequence to AME

(without using Clips Exporter) multiple times and test to see if the memory issue also happens.

I did tests before sending you my first answer and I believe if you do the same test I mentioned above,

you will notice the same memory usage as when the sequence is sent through Clips Exporter.

Last but not least you now said twice that I pointed a finger at Adobe so here is a copy of the reply you

received for anyone to have their own conclusions. Adobe has always been helpful when I have questions

and I believe that this does not sound like the answer you received.

From April 19th

Hi Robert

Henrique here.

I believe this is due to project size and how media encoder queues it's items.

When sending to media encoder it loads that info to memory,

so in your case premiere could be crashing because media encoder used all the memory.

Unfortunately that would not be up to us to solve.

Let me know if you need any more help or have additional questions.

Thanks

Henrique

As I pointed out, I believe Clips Exporter is a FANTASTIC add-on to Premiere Pro… Even with this problem, I find Clips Exporter an invaluable, major improvement to my productivity and I highly recommend your software for the $25 price tag.

The problem I have only started a couple of weeks ago so it is not a function of the version upgrade that was distributed back in January.

The fact that before I could easily export over 100 clips at one time with zero problems with AME establishes a baseline of performance between Clips Exporter, Premiere Pro and AME. Up until a couple of weeks ago, zero problems doing a multitude of 100-clip exports. Never a lick of a problem.

Now, I completely use up all 64 GB of memory on my computer – even though I limit all Adobe products from using more than an aggregate 32 GB. The fact that I'm greatly exceeding the Adobe limit, makes me believe that this is an issue with Clips Exporter.

I would ask you to try to replicate this memory overflow problem using the same above parameters. Also, on your system, can you export 100 clips at one time?

As I recall, part of the issue was that I had to reinstall Clips Exporter when I upgraded to the latest version of both Premiere Pro and AME. I was surprised this would be required. Part of the reinstall of Clips Exporter was also re-importing the presets. During all of this, I very well may have made some sort of cockpit error that negatively impacted Clips Exporter.

I look forward to your above answers to your own tests to replicate the issue that I'm having.

Thanks,

Robert

Hi Robert

I just ran a test on a 32GB machine.

I was able to send 120 clips and the memory usage went up only 1.8GB.

I sent some licenses for the AME team to test Clips Exporter.

So let's wait for those tests too.

Talk soon

Henrique

That's a very good sign, Henrique! I was able to do the same 100+ clips at a time myself – up until about two weeks ago.

This tells me that I've inadvertently modified some pivotal settings with Clips Exporter… Or something changed on my reinstall that was required when I upgraded to the latest versions of Premiere Pro and AME.

Can you think of any settings on Clips Exporter that I might have screwed up that would change the ability to do what you just did with your 120-clip export?

Thanks,

Robert

Could you send me a screen shot of your Clips Exporter "EXPORT" tab

and also from the "PREFERENCES" tab.

I'll rerun my test with the exact same settings you have.

Thanks

Please see the attached screengrabs which include the export tab for AME so you can see some of the details for my custom preset. This custom preset was also working fine up until a couple of weeks ago.

Many thanks,

Robert

Were the screengrabs I sent you a week ago of any help at reproducing the problem since you are able to export 100+ clips at one time?

LATEST

Henrique,

I never heard back from you after providing you with the screengrabs two weeks ago to give you the information you needed to solve this problem.

Were the screengrabs I sent you a week ago of any help at reproducing the problem since you are able to export 100+ clips at one time?

I have been stuck in neutral for the last three weeks waiting for this reproducible bottleneck with Clips Exporter to be fixed.

Solution?

Robert
