Draw out a fixed text box with type tool

Community Beginner ,

Maybe this is a feature request, or maybe I'm doing it incorrectly, but I would like to simply use the text tool to draw out a fixed text box. It acts like it is going to do it, but as soon as I start typing, the fixed box disappears. Instead I have to type in some text first in an auto-width default. I have to click out of the text tool, then drag the box handles to make a fixed box. It seems like unncessary extra steps to me.

On this help page in the "Draw Text in an Area" section, it looks like this should be possible. https://helpx.adobe.com/xd/help/drawing-text-tools.html But it does not work as suggested in the diagram.

I just want the type tool in XD to work like it works in everything else: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop.

Hi Josh Polk @ IUPUI, I couldn't see a feature request about it, so if you want to create one, you can do so here (if you don't know): https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests Happy designing!
