I have been working on a prototype for several months and have meticulously saved and named versions from the history as I have gone along for reference and to use for portfolio.
Today I went in to look at one of them, and they are all gone. There are NO saved versions and only 1 week of history. What gives???? I haven't saved them locally as I am new to XD and didn't really I think i needed to. Rely on the cloud? Hahaha. Pretty dumb of me.
Anyone have any insight in to where these went and if I am completely hosed or if they still exist out there somewhere in the ethers?

Hi there,
We're so sorry to hear about the trouble. Please check if you are able to see the files here https://assets.adobe.com/cloud-documents and ensure that you are signed with the same email address using which the files were created. You can also check these temp locations for auto-save:
Win: \Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Adobe.CC.XD_adky2gkssdxte\LocalState
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe XD/CloudToLocalMRUCache
The best way to look for a file in these folders is through date as the name of the file may be different from the actual file name. Let us know if this helps or if you need any further assistance.
Regards
Rishabh

That said, I also use a dedicated computer backup service called Backblaze. For unlimited cloud backup and recovery services, you can't beat the $6/month price anywhere.
