FBX animation missing and inconsistent

Community Beginner ,

Hello.

I m using After Effects 25.2.2 Build 2. I import an fbx file with animation, but the result are very inconsistent.

Yesterday when I imported an fbx with an animation, under animation tab, the name was there and I could preview the animation. Today, same file, same animation, the animation tab appears, but the name of the animation is missing and it doesn t work. If I make a simple cube in any 3d software with an animation and I import it, I can see it, animation tab is there, but there is no name of the animation and it doesn t work.

Same inconsistency for the environment light. I have an hdr in the scene, I try to use it as a source for an envrionment light, in one day I can choose the hdr that is there, in other day I cannot, it is not showing. After some clicks, it takes into consideration the light, but still without showing in source.

Do you have a fix? Should I try the beta version? I cannot work on a serious project and one day the animation to not work.

Thank you.

Hi there @dragae98969580 ,

The column you're looking for gets temporarily hidden when you toggle between Swiches and Modes. You can hit F4 or click the "Toggle Switches / Modes" button to bring the column back. You can also show both columns at the same time by right-clicking on one of the columns in the Timeline header and choosing Columns > Switches.

Thanks,

Thank you. Now I see it, you are right.

One thing to say, I don't think this is intuitive, since I tried for hours and apparently it's very easy. When you toggle switches/modes, nothing else dissapears from the properties of a 3d object, I mean nothing from the transforms or compositing options, only the animations, same for the environment light, that's why I think that option should stay there, visible.

Thank you.

This UI behavior where parameters are attached to Switches/Modes column has always bothered me. And if both columns are hidden, then the parameters are completely missing. If you resize the Name column very wide, then the parameter name and parameter controls can be a mile away from each other with giant emprty space in between. </mini-rant>

Thanks for the feedback, and I agree with you both. From what I understand, this is actually a tricky bug that has nothing to do with available horizontal pixel space.

I can at least say that these properties are always visible in the Properties panel, and that's where I usually set them from.

Thanks,
