NEW in Beta: Support for CICP Metadata

Hi everyone,

We're continuing our work to expand After Effects' HDR capabilities. Starting with AE 25.2 build 102, Import and Export of CICP Metadata is available, a broadcast industry standard way of specifying color spaces.

What is CICP

The CICP chunk specifies the video color space (primaries), transfer function, matrix coefficients and scaling factor of the image using the code points in accordance with ITU-T H.273 standard. After Effects now supports CICP metadata in MOV (ProRes), MP4(H264/HEVC), MXF(XAVC), PNG and ICC profiles if included.

Usage

In Project Settings, make sure you have selected an HDR compatible Working Color Space such as Rec.2100 PQ. Import a file containing CICP metadata (Quicktime, PNG file or TIFF, for example, with an ICC profile) and it will be interpreted correctly.

To Export with CICP Metadata, add your composition to the RenderQueue, and select PNG Sequence from the Output module. In the Color tab, select a desired output color space or keep it in the working space, and then export. If the selected color space supports representation as CICP metadata, it will be automatically embedded in the rendered output.

At this time, only PNG sequences from the AE Render Queue support CICP Metadata export.

Please give this new functionality a try and let us know how it's working for you.

Have a bright day everyone!

Signal range is part of CICP and it doesn't seem to be implemented.  It is identified in ITU-T H.273 as part of the standard: https://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-H.273.

While most graphics are full range, there is a need for some graphics to support up to 109% (and not clip).

The new support for previewing your HDR content through Transmit, would that be color managed then?

Color managed workflow with support for the secondary monitor has been missing, so this would a good time to integreate that.

Best regards,

Jakob Eriksen

Yes, the HDR preview that is currently in beta is color managed. You may need to configure your OS settings or update your hardware drivers. More info here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-beta-discussions/new-in-beta-hdr-preview-and-transmit/m...
