Problem
When using the new OCIO-ACES management, the Info Panel shows the same color values whether the Display Color Space is on or off. It's only showing the Working Space (ACEScg) values and not the Display Space values (ACES/Rec709). This causes confusion and is misleading when dealing with colors like white or brand colors. For example, when viewing "white" in ACES, it looks gray, yet the color values still show 1.0. This can also become an issue if you need to confirm that brand colors are correctly represented.
Recreate
Turn on OCIO-ACES management and view in either sRGB or Rec709. Then create a white solid (1, 1, 1). The white solid viewed with the ACES/Rec709 ODT will look gray which is correct. However, the Info Panel still shows this gray value as 1.0 instead of 0.8216.
Proposal
- There should be an option in the Info Panel to view color values in either the Working Space or Display Space. A simple toggle button would do.
- Another option would be to view both Working Space and Display Space values simultaneously. Similar to how Photoshop shows RGB and CMYK at the same time, the Info Panel could be revamped to show Working and Display space values together.
- Finally, the last option would be to only show Display Space values whenever the Viewer is enabled (Viewer set to Rec709) and show Working Space values when it's disabled (Viewer set to None).

I think these are great suggestions! Especially the one where you could view both scene and display values at the same time.

Any progress on this? 2024 just came out and we're still locked into only viewing the color values within the scene-referred space. We need the ability to view in both. Thanks.
