Preview not working (not starting)

Whenever I hit Space or the play icon in the preview pane, nothing happens. The playhead does not move

I'm assuming thats the same when hitting the space bar? I have a similar issue (when hitting space bar or using the play icon) but nothing happens for about 10 seconds then the RAM preview starts preparing its self, and after about 20 seconds playback happens (ok, still skipping a frame here and there).

I'm on the M1 Chip/MacBook Pro, so that may be my issue. Additionally, I am working with a 25 minute audio clip (podcast), although my work area I've set to only about 10 seconds.

I'm really struggling with getting AE to a useable state.

same here. Starts only after some minutes of waiting. Before that nothing visible is happaning. (Win10, 2950x, RTX 3090, AE-Beta 22.0.0.31)

This is an issue with multi-core rendering. If you turn that feature off, everything works as expected. So it seems, right know, after effects needs some time to spawn the additional processes.

For the time being i would like to have an option to select the functions in wich multi-core rendering is being used.
