Adding colour to one symbol blocks the view of another symbol

Explorer ,
Sep 12, 2022 Sep 12, 2022

Hello,

I am working on an animation in adobe animate and I have included several symbols in my animation. Whenever I try to fill one symbol with colour my other symbols are affected and they start to disappear underneath the colour of a previous symbol.

I have ensured that whenever I add colour I am editing within the symbol's layer.

I have tried to modify the symbols to move them to the back or to the front but that does not work. I have tried to lock symbols and hide them before I colour other symbols but ultimately the same issue occurs where the colours of different symbols blocks the view other symbols.

Many thanks for your help!

Bili

what kind of symbol?

and your bounce layer is below everything else, so if you color anything in any other layer, you expect it to cover whatever is in the bounce layer.

if you edit an object that's on the main stage while still on the main stage, you will edit that instance only.

if you double click that main stage object you will start editing on the object's timeline and that will edit all other instances, too.

if you edit a library symbol, that will change all instances of that symbol

When I double click on my symbol on the main stage the whole timeline is highlighted and a blue box appears but I cannot make any adjustments as it is a symbol. I would like make an edit that will edit all instances too so I would need to click on the layer of the symbol (so edit a library symbol) but whatever I edit overlapps other symbols on my main stage.

embed a screenshot showing the object on your main timeline (before double clicking) and a screenshot of what you see after double clicking.

your after screenshot shows an object in the bounce layer had been selected, and not double clicked.

Sorry for the late response. The after screen shot is what happens when I double click as instructed. The bounce layer is the object on my main timeline.

then the object in the bounce layer is a shape, not a symbol, correct?

and when you color it (presumably by hiding or locking the other layers), what problem do you see?

It is a symbol.

So my problem occurs when I colour the mountains in the background this blocks the main bounce symbol.

It is a graphic symbol.

Thank you so much! Problem solved! I needed to move the bounce layer higher so it wouldn't get covered haha. Thank you again for your help!

btw, if you double click a graphic symbol you will be taken the graphic symbol's timeline and that's not shown in your after pic where you're still in scene 1 (which is why i stated you failed to double click the symbol).

after double clicking a graphic symbol your screenshot should have looked something like this showing you're on the symbol's timeline:
