you can't change the definition of a, for example, movieclip's z property. it's like the x and y property.
if you don't understand, change your z property to zz and retest.

open your actions panel and search your main timeline for a frame with an "a" in it. that frame has code/text. maybe just an inadvertent ".z"

save your fla
close animate and everything else you have open
restart your computer
open animate
open your problematic fla
save to a new directory
test
if that fails and you see the same error, upload your fla somewhere and post a link.

OK. Got it.
Try disabling advanced layers (Ctrl/Cmd + J > uncheck Use Advanced Layers) if you're not using any special feature like the camera.
If that doesn't work, try copying your content to another file or updating Animate if you haven't already.
Please let us know.

JC

cc 2019 with advanced layers and camera does not cause an error, including actionscript errors (1152 and otherwise).

Try updating Animate anyway and see what happens.

I'm having the exact same problem. I don't use actionscript or know what it means and yet I'm still getting the same error. Haven't seen an a on anything either and there wasn't any code in the actionscript. I have no idea what the problem is.
