Adobe Animate Lag

Community Beginner ,
Jan 15, 2025 Jan 15, 2025

Hello I have been using Animate on various jobs for the past 4 years or so. I have used various line toold and shape objects and I have never had problems with lagging. Sadly on my most recent job I have had absolutely horrible problems with lagging, virtually slowing my work down drastically. I have tried the obvious solutions:

- scaling down

- lowering the preview quality

- deleting the library cache

- installing an older version of the software

The issues that occur are that it takes a very long time to zoom in and out, delete linework and the software often crashes when I select all the linework when I want to change the line thickness, or color. The lag becomes worse the more linework I add, so the end of my shot, doing simple things like moving around the stage becomes torturous.

All your support and help will be greatly appreciated

Doesn't work, that is what I usually try out first.

Have tried that as well. Just to clarify this issues has been going on throughout several different shots and the issue occurs to other people in the team. Even if we try a new file, or new layer the more information each brush stroke adds the heavier the lag becomes.

performance doesn't improve with 1/2 the layers in a new fla?

When I separate my layers beween several files the lagging is less, yes, but it is still there. So the issue still isn't solved, it's more of a bandaid for the time being.

then you've probably exceeded animate's and/or you computer's capacity.

So you're saying that me and 5 other crew members have exceeded animate's or our computer's capacity throught several different shots?

probably.  animate has limits and so does your computer.

Thank you for the advice, but it isn't helpful and it seems you don't understand the issue. Yes, everything has limits, however you can't have the same issue for several people, given that we all have different computers and different lenght in shots. For example doing linework on a single character, with the lenght of 1 second cannot exceed the limits of my computer/animate...and everyone else. Especially since I've worked on heavier shots in the past and had no issue.

At this point you're replying for the sake of replying and your answers are not useful at all, cheers tho.

If you're doing your linework with variable-width strokes it's going to slow down the program considerably; the paintbrush tool by itself is notoriously heavy to render, specially if you're using custom art brushes.

Try converting them to fills and optimize the amount of anchor points by going to Modify > Shape > Optimize.

hello @Simona22598410qpav  just to know, what version of Animate are you using? I also have this kind of problem since version 24 which I did not have on the old ones.

Hey Yann,

I'm using 24.0.05. I did try and install older version, but the problem still remained. Even though I remember last year I was working with Animate a lot and I had no lagging.

Having the same same same exact issue after updating from 22 to 24 and adobe has made it impossible to downgrade any further back than 23. What are your specs if you don't mind me asking? Im working on a 2019 27" intel imac and my current theory is that maybe the ARM compatability broke the software for intel based computers... but I really have no idea since I can't find anyone else with the same issue online! Hopefully it gets solved soon
