Will there be no update for Animate this year?

My Creative Cloud subscription is coming due in a couple of weeks, and unless there is an actual, serious committment to future of Flash/Animate (not some silly AI nonsense nobody wants) in the next couple of days then this will be the end of the line for my 30+ relationship with Adobe. I've already found alternatives for all of the other Adobe apps I use, and the Moho 40% Black Friday sale has come at the perfect time. Moho along with Rive, Spine and Cavalry are some very impressive, modern non-Adobe animation tools available today.

good news from adobe seems less and less likely.

Toon Boom Harmony Essentials works for me. Better drawing tools, too. Unfortunately it's still a subscription at $30/month, which is highway robbery.

You could try Clip Studio Paint? That has a really good frame by frame system. Its got a subscription which is much cheaper and an option for perpetual license.

It's been a long wait, hope we get some news today 😕

the longer the wait, the less likely there's animate-favorable news.

Guessing they are waiting till the Black Friday sale ends as a best case scenario.

There was a couple days ago a bug fix update so they haven't completely abandoned Animate

A bug fix isn't sufficient enough proof that the program won't soon be discontinued.
They only ever do bug fixes and such simply to iron out vulnerabilities nowadays, which, again, isn't sufficient enough to prove that Adobe won't just move Animate to "Older apps" at a moment's notice.
I'm especially looking pessimistic regarding Animate's future because of the circumstances.
Apparently we were slated to see communication come the end of November. As of the time of writing, it is the 5th December, so I'm very much expecting Adobe to drop this software once any discussion of Animate dies down.
Which is why I urge everyone to not only keep this thread alive, but also spread awareness outside the Animate Discussions board, and tell everyone all about the current situation.
The more people will speak up on a matter, the more likely others will at least notice the situation at hand.

it's honestly insane how much Adobe is neglecting something that's done so much for the animation industry, both professional and independent

Here is something I found in my Flash archives - a nostalgic memory from a better time.
Made by Nectarine in 2005 or 2006 it was a SWF, which I've just converted to MP4 with Swivel.

Haha
Wonder how a 2024 sequence would be...

Another thing to remember is that Adobe used to host Flash TV shows.

Those were the times.

I still have a number of DVDs (yeah... :optical_disk:) that a lot of that Adobe TV Flash content came from!
They had a partnership with Adobe Press and Video2Brain to host some of the content on Adobe TV and elsewhere... good times!

Wow. This is awesome.
I've been watching many shows from Adobe TV. That's a gold mine for Flash history.

Hi, everyone.
Just talked to an Adobe employee and he told me that the team is currently waiting for approval to share public-facing information on the matter.
Don't have an ETA, but at least we know that the situation is being actively worked on.
Regards,
JC

Thank you very much João, I hope that Adobe will take a position, although I find this whole "mystery" suspicious to say the least.

The whole fiasco is absurd and the way Adobe is [mis]handling these communications is so far beyond any of the ridiculous scenarios I've witnessed up to this point - encompassing decades. I used to have VERY regular communications with people on the team - mostly due to authoring and production purposes - and the last time I got an actual response was Oct 4, 2023, 2:11 AM. Dead silence forever thereafter.
The one thing they will actually serve us consistently - is betrayal.

Thats terrible... Completely unprofessional. I know with other animation services such as toon boom (can't advocate for moho but I've heard good things) they are very open about their updates and communication with their users. I'm not sure what else we really can do but keep this thread alive so we have proof that us Animate users care and want some form of communication. Heck at this point if they did plan to discontinue it I'd rather hear that than keep us in the dark ya know? (Not saying they are but saying I'd rather know that get it sprung upon me).

You seriously are the MVP of the forums ❤️ Thank you so much for being the inbetween guy! Like without you I'd have lost hope completely.

Thank you for the information.
But it seems to me that they will not give us any information this year,
it feels like they are just stalling to close the year. And then the new annual billing,
and only then will they tell us anything.
I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like they not only screwed us with the updates, but they want to screw us. ))

there's no billing-reason for the delay because different users have different renewal dates.
