Animate CC Crashing When Publishing?

Community Beginner ,
Jul 27, 2017 Jul 27, 2017

Hi!

I've been working on a bigger project over summer, and I've just now been having this issue of Animate CC crashing when I publish it as a swf. The progress bar goes to 53%, stops, then crashes when I try and publish it. I do have 24gb of ram, if it's possible that I could give Animate more ram to help then if you could let me know that would be great!

I've never really done a big project like this before, and I've put all my work into one scene. But I only have about 400 frames done of 4000, so I don't know if that should matter if it is in one scene. If it does, then do you know how to split up a sound file in Animate, because I have a sound file playing throughout the movie.

Thanks!

Any one timeline can have 16000 frames, and it wouldn't matter if you split it into scenes, the total would still need to be 16000 or less. So, at 4000 you may as well stay in one scene.

You could try deleting half of your frames, don't do a save, try a publish. If there is something in the timeline that is corrupt the crash should happen soon. If it does crash, try deleting more frames, if it doesn't crash delete less frames. Hopefully you can narrow down to what is causing the problem.

Hey! I have the exact same problem with shape tweens causing my crash. How did you resolve this? Does it mean we can't use shape tweens? It's now 2024...

@Caroline27001166shnx

if you create a new fla and add a new shape tween, does animate crash?

Hello. Yes. It is 100% the shape tween. I've tested it out. As soon as I
convert the tween to keyframes, and remove the shape tween motion, then the
file doesn't crash. Which is ridiculous really. What is the point of having
the ability to do the teen?

Is there a better workaround?

your last post is confusing.

what exact steps are needed in a new fla to re-create the problem?

Sorry - I thought you were customer services, so I was answering with history behind it. I didn't realise I was being replied to via the community forum.

So to answer your question. If I do a new fla, and new shape tween, then no, it doesn't seem to crash.
But I know from experimenting, that my last files were crashing due to teh shape tween. As soon as I removed it - by converting to keyframes - it stopped crashing.

Totally befuddled.

ok.

so, just one particular shape tween in a particular fla caused animate to crash?  if so, did the crash occur when creating the shape tween, when publishing the file with that shape tween, something else?

Yes is it one particular shape tween. It's basically an arm going from straight to bent. If I copy it into another file, it crashes that file as well. The crash is when it is publishing.

create a new fla

copy the initial keyframe from the crashing fla and paste that keyframe into the new fla

test

if it does not crash, copy the 2nd keyframe from the crashing fla and paste that keyframe into the new fla

test

if that does not crash, create a shape tween in the new fla

test

does that crash?

Hi - I tried that, and no crash! So it seems it's not the shape tween then...

There is a sleeve and a hand as seperate symbols, as well as the shape-tweened arm. Perhaps it is one of those symbols. I will check and report back! Thanks for your siuggestion so far - they have been so helpful!

ok, now delete the tween from the problematic fla

test

if no problem, save the fla with a version number appended.

copy the tween from the new fla that has no problem

paste into the previously problematic fla

save with the version number increased

test

if no problem, issue solved.

update this after testing.

if no

It turns out that it's the hand symbol that is crashing it, NOT the shape tween.

ok.

now repeat these steps with the hand symbol to see if what you've drawn can be salvaged, or whether it needs to be recreated.

does it crash when publishing a new fla?

if not, look for a corrupt symbol in your library.   start by eliminating everything.  if that works, use elimination by halves to pinpoint the culprit.

I have the same problem: how would you be able to find corrupted files?

by deleting a group and publishing.  ie, read message 2.

you use the process of elimination.  it should take no more log (base 2) of the number of library objects to find the corrupt symbol.
