Background Problem in Animation Video?

Community Beginner ,
Jun 29, 2025 Jun 29, 2025

I am trying to create videos in Animate (Adobe Animate 2024) to bring into Photoshop for an animated video. I have done this before very successfully but I don’t recall how!

I am creating movie clip symbols with a transparent background using alpha 0 in the Properties, and Exporting the file as Video/Media.

When I export the movie from Animate it creates a black background! I do not understand why! What is going wrong?

Hey, Debbie, I have not read the whole thread, but my impression is that you are trying to export your work with an alpha channel and failing, because you export to MP4.

MP4 does not support transparency.

Instead, use MOV with alpha or a 32-bit PNG sequence. These formats can render footage with transparent background.

Hi Nick,

I have mostly exported the video as MOV, about 14 times.
I am not sure what a 32-bit PNG sequence is.
I too used Flash for a long time, since about the year 2000 until it was longer used anymore.
I used Adobe Animate very successfully in a class in 2021 or 2022. It was a different version then.
The only real difference I can think of is that i was using the software on Windows then without a choice, but I'm usually a Mac user. I am on a Mac now.
I hope you can help me.
~ Debbie

The MOV file won't open on my computer unless I render it again in AME.
But I just tried twice and one worked as a transparent background when I embedded it in photoshop but the other did not.  😞
The one that isn't working is a more important file!

Hi again, Debbie,

Try these settings:

ntilcheff_0-1751424165294.png

Make sure to check 'Ignore stage color (generate alpha channel)'.

I just tested this, but I'm on Windows.

PNG sequence is just a sequence of numbered static PNG images which have alpha channel.

To render PNG sequence go to File > Export > Export Movie and as a file type choose 'PNG Sequence'.

Hope this helps!

Guys (or gals), I think I finally got it!!! I had to show the movie clip symbol in the scene in a different way, and export the MOV as Default (Animate) and NOT Default (AME)!!! (AND NOT use AME) Then it seems to work right in Photoshop now. Now I have to see if it will work when I do more animation for what I am creating!

OK. Thanks. There's another issue, but it is slight compared to all that.

Oh, Thanks for asking. The movie clip object has a slight black line around it when I create the background in Photoshop. (Looks like a thin stroke.)
Doesn't seem as bad if I do a background in Animate.
