[Bug] Playing stream audio from the editor almost always starts from beginning.

New Here ,
Jul 10, 2013 Jul 10, 2013

Whenever I am creating a movie clip with an audio layer set to "stream" I usually click certain points of the movie and hit enter to see and hear it. In Flash CC however, it seems about 95% of the time no matter what frame I am on when I hit enter the audio starts from the beginning and is not in sync. There have been a few cases in which the audio started at right frame but I haven't yet been able to isolate the process. Audio works great in the exported SWF, this issue is just just with the editor.

Hi,

While you're fixing this, please add the ability to export audio back into Flash CC.  Then I can use it.

Thanks.

I posted this answer in another similar topic, but it applies here as well-

So, I've been dealing with this issue for far too long. I've researched and researched and it appeared that there really was no fix for this.

Until now; possibly.

We've tested this theory on multiple machines and it seems to have fixed our problem here at the office. Best of all, the fix was extremely easy.

All we did was go to: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CC

Right-click Flash.exe

Run as Administrator

Done.

Give it a shot; it appears to have fixed our issue. Hopefully it fixes your issues as well.

Anyone figure this out yet?  Administrator seems to help but is certainly not fixing this.  This is driving me absolutely batty.  Such a big bug to persist this long in a software where this type of animation is daily ritual.

I ran Flash.exe as adminisrator. To start with, I had the same problem as before, but after a few minutes it started to work! Now it plays at the frame I want it to.

On Oct 3, 2013, @Preran says it will be address in the next patch.  Here we are, almost TWO YEARS LATER, and I'm still struggling with this issue.  It is inexcusable for such a glaring bug to remain persistent for so long.

It is November 5th and the problem wasn't fixed. It is frustrating not being able to use CC because of this serious issue. Adobe, please fix it!

This bug still hasn't been fixed. I don't recommend Flash for any animator; the issue makes syncing to music and vocals extremely frustrating. This bug has been around for months without solution.

  • Running as administrator does not solve the problem.
  • You will have the audio bug even if you do not have a Beats Audio Soundcard.
  • The longer and more complicated your project, the more frequently the bug happens. When it first begins (around 15-30 seconds worth of frames and about 7 layers) you can make the audio stream as it should by clicking your audio track, setting it to "stop," saving your project, and setting the audio to "stream" again.
  • However, when you have about 60 seconds on your timeline, the bug happens a lot more, and you have to actually close the project to get the sound to work again if you do not have the patience to wait for it to fix itself. The wait ranges from 30 seconds to several minutes to never fixed until you close. It's highly unpredicatable. Sometimes it is not enough to close the project, in which case you must quit Flash and start it up again.
  • It happens with both mp3 and wav sounds.
  • After a month of this bug, I still can't pinpoint what causes it. It's completely random.
  • This post suggests it has something to do with scrubbing the timeline. I haven't been able to replicate the bug by doing this. It happens whether or not you use the slider or just click on frames to navigate.

My system specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1)

64-bit operating system

Processor: Intel i5-4670K CPU @3.40 GHz

RAM: 8 GB

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Graphics Card

Audio is also NVIDIA High Definition Audio

The bug happens even if I plug in headphones to a regular audio port not on the graphics card.

Other audio types I have are the Intel Display Audio and Realtek High Definition Audio. I've tried messing with audio settings to no avail.

For what it's worth, Flash CS6 does not have this problem.  It has a different irritating problem that adobe can't be bothered fixing where the hotkeys stop working when you perform certain actions, but its not nearly as fatal as Flash CC's issues.

Hello,

Have the exact same problem, with flash cc... How is it possible to release such an expensive "professional" tool with that sort of a bug ?!

It works normally in the older flash version (even cs6).

Could you please clearly inform your customers about that feature : flash cc is not designed for animation, and it's impossible to manage sound correctly within the interface.

To resume : sound set as "event" doesn't even play at all. Sounds set as "stream" always start at the beginning, whatever frame the cursor is...

what a shame...

Please could you inform us about a solution ?

Thank you

Hi All,

While we agree that this a top most concern, unfortunately we do not have a consistent repro steps yet for this issue and that causes delay in our investigation. If you have a consistent repro steps and would like to spend some time with us, please let us know. We would be more than happy to hear from you.

Thanks!

Hello Mohan,

What are repro steps? Do you just need to know exactly what I did in order to experience this issue? Do you need example files?

I have not posted on this thread yet, but I am having the same issue as everyone here. I have to use Flash CS6 right now because I am mainly working on long animations that need to be timed with a narration. It is very frustrating to do in CC, because the narration is so long, so I have to listen to the whole thing over again if I want to test out just a little section.

Please let me know what you would need from us in order to fix this bug.

Thank you,

Repro steps are step by step instructions to consistently reproduce the problem. This particular case shouldn't require an example file, but that may help.

The roadblock to fixing this is that they can't consistently reproduce this problem. If you can get it to happen at the same time every time, please post how.

Hi Veggies!

Thank you for the reply. Now I see what you mean : ) I just went back into CC to take a look again, and it is working, after it NOT working all day yesterday - what?! I can't believe it. So, you are right, I cannot reproduce the problem now : ( I see why that would be hard to fix. I'll keep trying to figure out what I was doing differently yesterday. I was logged into my work network and using my monitor there, and also using my headphones. I can't see what difference that would make, but who knows.

Thank you,

Hi Carla,

Any help in terms of reproducing this issue would be of great help. Just to understand when did you find this issue started working for you? Is it that you quit and relaunch Flash? Also could you please elaborate your work environment?

Thanks!

Mohan

Hi Mohan!

When it was not working for me in Flash CC, I did some research and found this forum, and decided I would try to open the file in Flash CS6 instead. So, I opened up my file for the first time the next day in CS6, and it worked there in CS6. Then I closed CS6 and opened CC, and then, it worked in CC!

All of that happened last Thursday and Friday. It did not work for me Thursday at work, then it did work for me on Friday (could have been because I switched to CS6 and back, or not - I don't know because I didn't test it in CC first on Friday - I just assumed it wouldn't work again).

And now it is working for me on Monday, and I am at work. It works with and without headphones. I am using the same laptop at home and at work. The only difference is that at work, I am connected to the network, and using a separate monitor. I wonder if this could have anything to do with it. I'll check it out next time I work from home.

Also, I'll look into the details of my laptop setup. All I know right now is that it is a Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with an Intel I7 processor. I have Ludacris Soul wired headphones, and a Samsung monitor. Do you need details about the graphics and video cards? I don't know what I have, but I can find out.

Thanks!

Carla

Hi Mohan,

Here is more:

Yesterday, at work, when working in Flash CC, everything was going fine, and then out of nowhere, when I tried to play the audio from halfway through the timeline, it started the audio at the beginning! This is different than what I was experiencing before, which was that the audio wouldn't play at all from part way through the time line. I tried it a few times at different spots, and kept getting the same result. Then I brought the playhead back to the beginning and played it and it was fine, and then it was fine from then on, playing from the right spot from anywhere in the timeline. So, I have no idea what happened or what I did to fix it, but it was only broken for a little while.

Hope this helps!

Carla

Look at that, Flash CC 2014 is released and the audio issue is...wait for it...still here. Nice work Adobe. Way to take the comments and concerns of your customers and poop on them. Bravo.

I'm as frustrated by this bug as you are, but I'm not going to make a fool out of myself by making some snarky sarcastic remark that doesn't help anything. Do you understand how bug fixing works? The reply literally right above yours explains why the bug isn't fixed yet. I fail to see how an honest response from Adobe is equivalent to them "pooping" on us. They can't consistently reproduce the bug.  When you can't do that, it's incredibly difficult to identify the problem, especially in a program as large as Flash. So, unless you can provide consistent repro steps, save your negative attitude for your blog or twitter account. Nobody cares about what you say here if it isn't toward the good.

I am confirming that this bug is not fixed in Adobe CC 2014.

Refer to my earlier comment in this thread for what causes it. I have figured out nothing new since then.

I am downgrading to Flash CS6.

I did notice immediately that Flash CC did not allow me to right click an audio file and edit it in Audition. This makes transitioning to and from Audition very clunky. I'm not certain why this feature was removed as both are Adobe products. Can this feature be reinstated?

As for the bug, I did not experience this bug until very recently. Suddenly one day the audio began acting like it was syncing by Event rather than Stream in the editor. It plays fine when published, but makes editing very, very difficult. Could it be related to Flash player rather than the editor itself? It seems like it was my Flash Player that was updated and suddenly caused this problem. No other components in my system changed when this bug occured.

I was just staring this down and if it means anything I had this problem just a couple of minutes ago and I naturally flipped out. I turned off my Dolby advanced audio to see if that would work. It worked for the first 2 plays and stopped. Before I tried any of the other suggestions I thought might work for me, I clicked the layer that contained the audio at different times (where I desired to listen from - Frame 570 or frame 630), and it just worked. If I clicked non-audio layers it would start playing it wrong again. Anyway I thought "it may not last long" and restarted flash as an administrator. It's still working out this way. Sometimes navigating by clicking the non-audio layer will work but then at other times it doesn't. It isn't too annoying to click the audio layer, I just have to remember to click the correct layer and frame before I start drawing.

Maybe this is something some of you guys could try? I know it sounds really petty and small, it could just be my laptop throwing a wobbly or it could be a temporary solution until it's fixed.

[WINDOWS 8.1 - Intel core i5 2.50GHz - 6GB ram - 64-bit operating system - x64-based processor - Dolby Advanced audio]

[Audio layer is locked - 25 fps - 5910 frames overall]

if this information is relevant to any of you

-Clarence

Great find, Clarence! So you're saying if you have the audio layer selected during playback, the problem seems to go away? I'll have to remember to try this next time. Thanks for posting.

Here is a further clue to the issue. I don't know how it relates,.. but the few times I have gone to hit F5 to advance the timeline and mistakenly hit F4 instead (which hides the menus), when I hit F4 again to show the menus, the audio plays from the beginning no matter where I am on the timeline. If I close the file and reopen it, the audio is synced again with no issues. Hope this helps your problem solving

Another way this happens: when I hit Ctrl +8 to zoom in on the stage, the audio plays from the beginning and does not rectify itself even if I close and open the flash file again.
