Newb question.. I created a head with eyes and mouth in the same layer. I am now trying to select the eyes and mouth but it will not work. It only selects the entire head. Even though it's in the same layer I should be able to select the individual objects.

You have to select the head, open the Properties panel to figure out what the head is: a Graphic, Movie Clip, group, bitmap...

Anyway, can you post a screenshot of your timeline?

If it is a bitmap, then you cannot select individual elements from the face.

You'll have to extract them in Photoshop and bring back to Animate or trace over them using Animate's drawing tools.

Thank you. How could it have become a bitmap? I used the line tool to create the head, don't recall ever changing it to a bitmap. Is there something I should do to avoid this from happening?

lol I am new, must have clicked the wrong place at some point. I was able to trace it as you said. I might just redo it, might make it easier to work with.

i don't know any shortcut way to convert to a bitmap.  in fact, afaik you have to select your object>click modify>click convert to bitmap.  i don't think there is a default shortcut.

if it's a bitmap how could you select anything (other than the bitmap).

convert it to a vector: select it>click modify>bitmap>trace.

start with non-detailed settings so you don't freeze animate and get an idea of the trade-off between detail and time to convert.
