creating a simple, frame counter to place on the stage

Explorer ,
Jan 19, 2025 Jan 19, 2025

Hey Folks,

I'm wondering if this can be done....

Is it possible to place ActionScript in a Frame that would generate a Frame Counter "App", live, onto the Stage, while I'm working in real time?

I know you can add code to a dynamic TextField that would create this "Frame Counter" to a published or exported movieClip, but can something like this be done where it's actually happening in real time, while your creating?

Peace,

ElementX

@kglad

Isn't that what the OP asks for: "a Frame Counter "App", live, onto the Stage, while I'm working in real time?"

Hi n. tilcheff,

Thank you for the link but I couldn't find the "frame counter" there, not even after doing a search for it.

That said, cool site though, lots to learn; Thanks.

Also, what did you mean by "Isn't that what the OP asks for", is that some kind of refference to my age, as in Old Person?😁

Peace,

@ElementX

Download the Movie Template FLA.

The counter is in it.

Copy/paste the layer, frame or symbol into your own file and use it.

OP is a common forum acronym for Original Poster.

@ElementX

is that what you wanted?  something that shows the timeline frame number, not the fps?

kgld,

I haven't explored the download file yet, but in simple terms, yes.

I'm looking to see the Frame Number, on the stage, as I'm working on the animation, or whatever I'm working on.  I called it Frame Counter and used it as a search criterion, I wasn't sure what else to call it.

the FPS's are set, so I'm good there.

BTW, thanks for asking.

Peace,

ElementX

can't you see the timeline when you're working on the stage and see the frame number (and much more) in the timeline panel?

I could if I kept it open.  Space is valuable and I've been teaching myself the shortcut keys, which is why I asked about the Frame Counter

Just to add: Frame counters are also very useful for controlling and maintaining sync when working with multiple nested timelines - both synced and not.
