Hi, I have been reading and fear that there could be little I could do.
I have spent weeks on a uni assignment, (new to adobe), and while exporting my animation, adobe animate became unresponsive. I waited over a half an hour but eventually had to force quit. When I tried to open the file again, I got the error: "An error ocurred opening file <filename>.fla"
I am on an m1 macbook air if that helps anything.

Hi.
I'm sorry about this.
There are basically five things you can try:
- Search for the auto-recovery FLA files that Animate creates like described here;
- Rename the .fla to .zip and/or .rar and try to recover it using WinRAR or another similar archiving program. Then rename the file back to .fla;
- Try to recover (previously) deleted files from the file system in the Recycle Bin / Trash;
- Use dedicated softwares to search for deleted files;
- Decompile the most recent exported SWF using softwares like SWF Decompiler, JPEX, Flash Decompiler Trillix, or others.
Please tell us if any of these methods could solve your problem or if you still need help.
Regards,
JC
