How to make a colored outline effect on masked symbols?

Hello! I've been working on building a character rig that has a shirt with colored sides that are separate mask pieces inside of the symbol and clipped onto the shirt base, that could be animated to turn around the torso to create create a fake 3d effect.

 

Though. I was wondering if there was a way to replicate an effect that the side masks affect the outline of the shirt, so the outline follows the masks? Like the image attached below for example (or if there's an easier way of going by this). Any help is greatly appreciated ◡̈
