Invert Mask in Animate

Is it possible to invert a mask in Animate? 

See attached screen shot. I want to make gold rule visible on the outside of the box used to mask the layer.

I've been looking everywhere and haven't been able to find a definitive technique.

Also - I'm creating file in HTML 5 Canvas. This seems to complicate the issue.

create a mask that covers what you want to reveal.  ie, it may consist of two disconnected shapes.
