Adobe Animate 2024 opens fine and I can open my files and get into them. BUT when I try to use certain functions such as the selection tool to drag an object it doesn't do anything and gives a loading cersor. The window will go cloudy and tempararily say "Not responding" at the top left-hand corner of the screen. Then it goes back to the program as if nothing ever happened, it doesn't crash or anything. It was working just fine an hour ago but something changed IDK.
Idk if this is relavent but I installed/updated: (I'm pretty sure this problem started before I did these things tho.)
I have the system requirements if your wondering so it's not that.

that's enough, so ram's not the problem.
open animate
click edit > keyboard shortcuts
can you see how to add a custom keyboard shortcut and test it?

I'm tracing an image in animate and the image is a 4k MAX RAW photo. My monitor is only 1080. I shrunk the photo down in animate to fit the canvas. Could this be causing the lag?

how could that be related to a new fla?

i understand, but we're trying to track the problem's cause so answering correctly is important.
save your fla.
resave (with a different name) after deleting the suspect bitmap from your animate library.
how's that fla perform?
