Motion Tween Path not showing

Participant ,

Hi everyone. I'm struggling with motion tween. I created a symbol, then double clicked to go into the nest. Next, adjusted and made it a motion tween. Proble I'm having, is there's no path to click on or edit. Normally, a path shows right away when you motion tween. I cannot figure it out and I've tried scowering the internet and searching forums. Thanks in advance for the help. Tried to attach the animate file but keeps telling me "content type does not match it's file extension and has been removed." So if anyone also has an answer for that, I would appreciate it.

I sort of figured it out and correct me if I'm wrong, but when I get it to work the order is:

  • Create motion tween on a single keyframe
  • scrub over to ending keyframe
  • then move the shape. This way a line does appear for me to edit.

When it doesn't appear:

  • I made a keyframe. Then clicked my last keyframe, hit F6, then move the shape.
  • Next I right click and add motion tween. No line to click on or edit.

I find classic tween to be the best. You have better control of things. But Motion tween has its moments.

here is a pretty good video that explains it.

it's not clear what you mentioned editing your symbol, because you would typically edit/create your symbol and then create your motion tween.

See above original message. This is exactly the order I stated it. Please clarify if I'm misunderstanding. I created symbol, then in the nest, after making a motion tween, it doesn't let me edit the line because the line won't show.

you don't use a last keyframe for a motion tween.  one way to create a motion tween is exactly the way you explained in your last message.

or after the first keyframe add or click the last frame (of the planned tween), create your motion tween and then change your symbol's property (typically, but not necessarily its position) that you want to tween.

using a first and last keyframes would be used for a classic tween.

and double clicking would be to edit your symbol and is superfluous to the thread topic and the reason your first post was cited as being unclear.

@kglad Thanks for responding. You were helpful. Forgive if I'm not conveying the process correctly, but the last frame (meaning where I want the object to finish or end up at the end) allows me to plan where I want it to go. Then I want to edit the path between the set amount of frames I want the animation to last. But I completely understand what you are saying about classic tween. Double clicking allows me to edit a symbol yes, but also allows me to do a "nested animation" inside the symbol, whether it'd be a motion tween or classic tween or frame by frame. I listed it just because it was the process and wanted to list everything for everyone incase it was the process was what was causing the problem. Thanks again for the replies. You were the only one. I appreciate it.

you're welcome.  and yes, editing the motion tween path is done exactly as you just described.
