Opening swf files on Windows 10 - Animate 2015.2

Explorer ,
Oct 25, 2016 Oct 25, 2016

Hi guys,

I've always used Flash CC on windows 7.

I upgraded to windows 10 and thought id install the new animate software.

However - I am unable to open swf files. Flash always installed a standalone swf player - but animate doesn't seem to have installed one - or windows hasn't associated the file type with it - and I don't know what its called.

Can anyone help please! Thank you 🙂

Ahem. The standalone player should be located at :

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Animate CC 2015.2\Players\FlashPlayer.exe

you should open in your browser by changing your default apps.

Yes, I would set SWFs to be opened with that player. If there's ever a reason to view a SWF in a browser, you could drag it onto the browser window.

Now that Chrome, IE 11, and Edge have Flash plugin built in, the old Flash Player install isn't installed, but it's handy that you can use the one that is inside Animate's folders. Might be interesting to get Flash going with Firefox, that install might come with the non-Animate standalone player.

your installed player version is likely to be significantly older than your browser version (if you keep your browser version up-to-date or you let it automatically update).  that may (or may not) matter to you.
