Sync Stream mode causes lag

I am animating the lip syncing for a character. When I go to the properties of the audio layer, the sync is set to Event; no problem. But when it's set to Stream, there is a brief moment of lag as soon as the playback reaches the moment the character begins speaking.

I've been animating this while in Stream mode so that I can scrub through the timeline while hearing the audio--makes lip syncing easier. When I press play, there's a brief moment of lag when it reaches the speaking part, but the audio and animation are synced perfectly (Still in stream mode). But when I change the sync mode back to Event, the animation is not aligned with the audio, because I have been animating it in Stream mode which is laggy in the first place. Does that make sense?

Is there a way to get rid of this lag?

Thank you.

Is this lag in audio only or in the visual animation as well? Perhaps you need to trim the beginning of the audio file?

The lag happens in the visual animation as well. In fact, the red scrubber (the red line that indicates where you are in the timeline), moves smoothly across the timeline as the animation is playing, but as soon as it reaches the audio, it freezes for half-a-second, then continues playing. This only happens when the audio is in Stream mode.

The audio was recorded with Adobe Audition and is saved as: WAV 44 kHz Stereo 16 bit

EDIT:

Although Stream mode causes the red scrubber to lag, Stream mode is in fact the real time of the animation, while the Event mode is the inaccurate time of the animation. I realized this because after I exported the animation, the lip syncing matches perfectly. When I go into Event mode within the software, that's when the syncing is inaccurate.

For now, I will just work with Stream mode, and never in Event mode. Although, the red scrubber lag is a bit annoying in Stream mode because it prevents me to see the playback of the animation perfectly.
