Using frame picker on symbol with tweened animations inside

Hi Guys!

I have a symbol of a hand, with animations of the fingers moving packed inside it. When I go into the main body layer the frame picker doesn't see any of the animations. If frame picker doesn't work on symbols with motion tweening that's fine-- but I'm also confused why I can't see any of the animation when I bring in the hand symbol in general. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Carly

Is it possible that you have accidentally created a Movieclip Symbol instead of Graphic?

From Properties panel, just switch to Graphic and it should start behaving the way you want it.

Hi! That was it! Thanks so much. Another question-- (sorry I'm a n00b) I have a head with blinking eyes via the frame picker , and am trying to animate the head bobbing on top of that via a classic tween, but when I apply the teen the frame picker/ symbol animations go away. Is there a way to pack the head into a "precomp" the way you can in AE so that I can have both the up and down movement with the blinking?

That's great. Always good when solutions are so easy

Yeah, you can create a blank symbol and paste the layers inside that one - this will work as your head container.

By default Animate cannot create a wrapper around a selected block of frames. There are extensions that do this, like our Timeline Block To Symbol...

Hey, don't know if that would be of interest, but it may be - recently I wrote a very detailed article with video examples how to set your characters for animation.

This is the little announcement I made in the forum: Character rigging for Flash animation

If you go to our website you can download some sample rigs and a sample animation file which should show how things are nested and structured for best flexibility and control.
