Audition stuck/freezes when losing focus and reverting back again

Hi there!!!

I faced a problem with the latest version of Adobe Audition 2024.

I'm sending a sequence from Premiere to Audition (sending the video as rendered), when Audition starts, it very long to process import files (I've tried Adobe Audition 2023 23.6.1.3 and goes faster), then when I working in Audition in multitrack and lose the focus then reverting it again, Audition stuck and video doesn't responding for a 1-2 mins and then all becomes all normal. I also tested with Adobe Audition 2023 23.6.1.3 and there's no such problem with losing the focus. So 23.6.1.3 works better, but I'd like work in new versions. Maybe that problems is on my side? Could you help me with that?

Thanks!!!

Best regards!

I have exactly the same problem, although mine freezes for about 7 seconds when the app loses and then regains focus. It makes it almost unusable for me.

Just to add: I reverted back through all versions to an early 2023 version and I have the same problem in all versions.

I have an update: This horrible bug is still not fixed, but I've realised that if the transport is playing then Audition doesn't freeze when switching out of focus and back.

Freezing like this is more likely to happen when:

  1.  Working on files, or a multitrack that includes files, stored on removable media, including permanent external drives.
  2. When working with files managed by cloud sync services like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive/SharePoint, etc.
  3. If the system is running out of resources.

Check for the first two, and then use your system resources monitor (Activity Monitor on Mac, Task Manager on Windows) to check for other resource-intensive applications or processes running at the same time as Audition.

Also, look for updates to your system and drivers, and apply those if available.

This is the case with any file from any source and also when Audition is loaded as the first app from computer startup with no files. Just switching from Audition to Explorer and back causes the freeze.

I had an Adobe customer support guy connect to my computer and play with it and he couldn't solve it. His only suggestion was "Reinstall windows". This new realisation that it doesn't freeze when the transport is playing is my only saving grace, although it's no good if I'm working on short sound effects or dialogue.

"when Audition is loaded as the first app from computer startup" Apparent load order doesn't mean anything, especially with Windows. Yes, it might be a bug. Yes, you might need to reinstall Windows. But wouldn't you rather actually know if that was necessary before doing it?

Use your system resources monitor, Task Manager on Windows, to check for other resource-intensive applications or processes running at the same time as Audition. Do it like this:

  1.  Press WIN+R
  2.  In the Run dialog, typetaskmgr and press Enter
  3.  When Task Manager appears, go to the Processes tab
  4.  One at a time, click the CPU, Memory, and GPU(s) headers to sort the list of running processes by the most intensive at the top.

Also, take note of the percentages of CPU, Memory, Disk, and GPU(s) being used without Audition running after a clean reboot of your computer.

You should also try booting into Safe Mode, which will load Windows without some of the dozens of apps and processes that get loaded hidden in the background. See if you have the same problem with Audition freezing in Safe Mode.

Other things to try:

  • Have you tried resetting Audition's preferences recently?
  • Have you run a disk check recently to look for file system errors? (Audition, like any software, relies on many files to run. If there's an issue with any of them, it can cause the application to freeze while it tries to read the file or location.

Wait. So you're NOT sending a sequence from Premiere to Audition? That's what this thread is about. You'll get more help on issues if you create new posts specifically about that issue rather than tacking onto someone else's unrelated issue from six months ago.
