I have been continusely getting this same error message and now I have lost over 20 mins of recorded audio. The file visually appears to be there but the audio has gone! I did not save over the audio I simply closed the program and re started when I open it up and try and play the file there is nothing. An entire days work is now gone. aud error message.jpgno audio.jpg

If you record in Multitrack then the audio is written directly to disk, unlike in Waveform view where it goes via a temporary file first. And if a disk failure is going to occur in Multitrack recording, then this error will occur at the recording point, not when you shut down. So firstly, when exactly did the error message occur? And secondly, why didn't you do a save at the end of recording? It's not safe with any software to assume that everything's always going to be okay.

Hi Steve, I wasn't recording in multitrack I was putting together an episode of my podcast. The error messge came up while I was adjusting some clips in the multitrack session. I did save at the end of my recording, the audio was saved and located on my external hard drive, this is again why I dont undrestand why the audio is gone, I did not save over anything at all. When that warning came up I did as it saud and just saved what I had done during the multitrack session and then closed. When I re opened everyhting audio wise was fine exept this one file where it was just gone.

If you saved the audio, then it is almost certainly there. Since the message has occured while you are in Multitrack mode, and everything else is okay, then it may well be the session file that has failed to write correctly. It may just be a case of locating the original audio and putting it back into the session - although if you do that and find it, the safest thing to do is to save the whole thing as a new session file as well.

I don't know what to say other than the file is there yes but when I bring it over to Audition theres nothing on it, its blank. This has happened before. In other files though when this warning has come up and I have closed the program when I re open the file some of the recording is there and some isnt.

When you save a wav file, the save is in two parts. The audio part (.wav), and a separate file that stores the visual display information, which has a name that's the same as your audio file, but a different extension on the end - so it will look like [myfile].pkf and if you load that by mistake, you will get no audio. It's the wav file you need to locate and replace in your session.

Yes I know, I've been using Audition for 15 years that's why Im at a total loss as to what has happened to my audio. As mentioned I ahve some WAV files that I have been wokring on when I have got this warning message, closed adobe, re opened and loaded up the wav fie again and sections of it are completley missing wheer other parts are totally fine. Its bizarre! I had an adobe tech take over my computer last night and look at it and could not answer what was happening either. He was unable to recover those files but made a fix to where he said it shouldn't hopefully happen again, so we will see.
