The activation server for Audition 3 was turned off years ago. For a while, there was a version you could download from Adobe that came with a special serial number that anybody could use, but a few months ago that was withdrawn for legal reasons we are not allowed to discuss. So without that download version and serial number, you can't run it at all, I'm afraid. If you have that download and its appropriate serial number, then you can install it and it might work. It is not a big fan of Windows 10, though - people have reported having difficulties.

Adobe Audition version 3 has features that subsequent versions eliminated. It also was much wasier to use than the cloud version.  Very dissappointing!

I am planning to write my Congressman and get an answer from him concerning getting an activation code to restart Audition 3.0 following a hard drive crash.  One of the bloggers here mentioned he is not allowed to discuss Audition 3 shutdown reasons.  IMO, "skunking" software users paid good money for is not right, especially when a failure arises from a hard drive crash.  This gives the appearance of Adobe attempting to force Adobe 3 users from "perpetual licenses" to expensive monthly subscriptions.  My Congressman is very unhappy about "big tech" shenanigans, and this can be an addition to his list.   I have authentic Adobe Audition 3.0 software in Adobe packaging; it installs perfectly on the new drive until an activation code is requested.  The fair thing for Adobe to do with Adobe 3.0 is to provide the activation code with warning to use the software at the user's own risk and release Adobe from any adverse occurrences.  BTW My Adobe Acrobat 4 still works perfectly and it has survived at least three hard drive crashes.

Well, if your congressman can renegotiate to reinstate all of the withdrawn licensing rights with the companies concerned, then good luck to him. But like I said, it's not an item for discussion, and that's not my decision, so I'm locking the thread.
