hello everyone I am having a bit of trouble attempting to get Adobe audition to record my (voice only) on track 1, and my instrumental on track 2. Sounds pretty simple and newbie right? well I thought the same thing, just select the mic as the input, arm for record, and I should be up an running. It hasn't been smooth at all.
For some strange reason when I hit record audition not only records my voice on track 1, but it also records the instrumental from track 2 as well. now both the vocal and instrumental from track 2 is embedded together on track 1. this really sucks.
So what have I tried a million times?
I've been to the audio hardware in preferences and selected my output and inputs correctly.
I even went into the audio channel mapping and played around in there as well. nothing seems to be stopping audition from recording my computers internal audio. Yes if I'm playing a youtube video you can see the Meters running on track 1 in audition the moment I hit arm for record. so to be clear audition will record my mic as well as the internal audio from my computer and whatever is on track 2 or any track for that matter. it seems something is off. Also (just in case someone asks No my microphone is not somehow recording the sound coming from my headphones or monitor. even if my microphone volume is completely down the waveform will be nice and chunky from recording the instrumental from track 2.
So let me give you some my specs
I'm using an external audio interface an Alesis multimix 4Fx interface. (not the best interface in the world but its never caused me any issues before and I used to have it running in audition perfectly in the past (past meaning a few days ago). running windows 10 64bit. Adobe audition latest version
What I could have done to screw it all up?
over the last few days I have purchased 3 audio interfaces the digidesign 003, m-audio fast track ultra 8R, and the focusrite 2i2 3rd gen, and I've installed each one of their drivers to my systsm. before fiddling with these new Interfaces I had my old interface working smoothly with audition.
I know I rambled a lot just wanted to give all of the information that way I can really get some assistance here. does anyone know what's happening? thanks so much in advance.

This is, actually, an interface problem. Above the Phones volume control on your 4FX there's a button marked 'Ext/USB to Main'. It's almost certainly depressed, and one of the things this will do is, as it says, send any audio on the USB bus back into the main output from the mixer. Like it says in the manual: 'Engage this switch to route the audio from the 'Ext in' input and USB audio from the computer to the mixer's Main Outs and Phones out'. Now, this may give you a monitoring issue - but it's almost certainly why track two is recording track one as well.

Steven thanks so much this did allow me to record my vocals only without track 2. And as you stated monitoring is a nightmare now. the purpose of my entire session is to record voice over while listening to the score and if I cant hear it at the same time it's an odd thing. I'm sure this cannot be the only way to record with this interface as I certainly never depressed that button before. thanks either way for your help.
