Adobe Audition does not playback

I can import an .MP4 file and it shows up fine as if imported properly, but when I hit the play arrow, nothing happens.  

Yesterday I ran the latest update for Adobe Audition and it worked during a test of a small file.

Today when I import a larger .MP4 file, it looks like it imports fine, but the play button is froze again.

Anyone have ideas on this?

If you wait for a bit with a longer file loaded, does it play eventually?

No, it will never play. I have tried small .MP4 files and larger .MP4 files. They stay frozen no matter how long I wait.  The Windows 10 PC that I am using is a pretty robust PC with 32 GB of memory. And a very healthy video card. This worked flawlessly until the last major update. Then stopped.  Then the latest minor update made it work again. But after another day, it stopped working again.  It's almost like a setting of some type is preventing normal function.  The files import fine and show up in the window fine, but the play arrow just won't ever work.

There may be a clue in there... it is pretty much a universal Audition truth that if you can't get the transport to move at all, then Audition has become disconnected from your sound device. If for whatever reason, your sound device was set to play at 44.1k, then it's just possible that if you haven't let Audition attempt to change the sample rate settings to 48k, it won't play. The setting is here:

Generally MP4 files have 48k audio. But the bottom line is, whether this option is set or not, to check the audio hardware settings and make sure that it's set to 48k. That's definitely the first place to look for a solution, anyway.
