Audition crashing before saving a recording

Just lost a lot of dissertation work.. this time near the end in Audition (new to it). This attempt at recording is the 3rd time it conveniently crashed right before I went to save. I thought I was doing the right thing, auto-save went to the computer, but that also created a backup on a huge cloud from school. I'm at my wit's end. This recording was an extension, and I spent the past 3 hrs looking for it, and it's bringing up versions from a week ago or right after "crash," essentially what I opened looking for.

    Thanks kevin. 2 days post and I am making one final attempt at searching everything. I am on windows 11. 

    the "good" is that I have what I think are all the files from that session. i tried opening sessions and then linking media. elsewhere, someone mentioned opening files and THEN trying the session. however, when I do this, all of those session files I open look the same. Even if there is no linking to be done or a file or two, it looks like some of the earliest iterations of my project. 

     

    am i missing a step or two? I feel so close but I suppose it may be time to jjust start over. which i would have dome but it's quite emotionally heavy stuff

    edit:  My actual document - .sesx was being saved to onedrive. my local apparently also uploaded to the cloud. not sure if i need to link the .sesx onedrive to onedrive files or local files and/or do that for my local. 


    found sessions i think could be it- i renamed them. BUT problem is they are importing multiples and copies and created 80 tracks. i see some are in correct location. HOWEVER my session before crash was 8 tracks! how do i sift?
