Question

Audition + Focusrite Scarlett 18i8

I'm having an issue with Adobe Audition recognizing a 3rd and 4th channel. I'm using the Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 usb audio interface on a Windows laptop. I record a podcast and have no issues recording 2 microphones but Audition doesn't appear to have an option for me to add 3rd and 4th channels so I can have multiple guests.

Are you using an ASIO driver? If you aren't, you won't see any extra channels, as the basic drivers are only required to see two, as part of the Windows spec.

As Steve says, the first important thing is to install (or reinstall) the Focusrite ASIO driver.

Then go to Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware and select ASIO under Device Class.  Select the Focusrite Driver under the "Device" drop down menu.

Next, create your multitrack session.  In the editing  box at the left end of each track, select the drop down menu in the Input box--that's the one marked with the right-facing arrow.  Select Mono from the menu you get then you should be able to pick your Focusrite Channel 1 in Track 1.

Repeat this, putting Channel 2 in Track 2 and so on until you have them done.

If you're going to do this from time to time, I suggest that, at this point, you Export your setup as a Session Template so you don't need to go through this palaver every time.

i have just purchased the 3rd gen 18i20 runing into adobe adution can only see two channels as your chat suggests, but there is no mention of asio in either windows 10 config or 18i20 control panel or even a download on the focusrite support, what am i looking for please ?

Get the latest driver from here: scarlett-3rd-gen/scarlett-18i20-3rd-gen  and go to Audition's hardware settings page and select ASIO from the available device classes. ASIO doesn't exist as far as Windows is concerned, as it effectively bypasses most of it!
