Audition playback issues

New Here ,
Jun 20, 2017 Jun 20, 2017

I installed CS5.5 on a laptop running Windows 10. I cannot initiate audio playback with either the play button or space bar. Audio in Premiere Pro works fine. I tried an uninstall/reinstall with no change. Any ideas?

You need to make sure that your sound device is seen correctly by Audition - that's the only thing that stops the transport working.

So go to Edit>Preferences>Audio Hardware and make sure it's assigned. You may also have to check the Device Class setting to find an appropriate driver.

Thanks. That worked. However now I notice that the record button and "R" buttons on each track are grayed-out and I cannot record. I have my mic connected and selected in "audio hardware" and can hear myself on the headset when I talk into the mic. Again, any ideas?

If we're talking about Multitrack, then you need to select an appropriate input:

Thanks, so that worked to get the "grayed-out" issue, but I still can't record. I get an error message that input/output sample rates don't match. I went to edit>preferences>audio hardware and changed back and forth between 44100 and 48000. Still get that error message. I have spent a lot of time trying to see what sample rate the computer speakers are set at with out any luck.

You need to go into the Windows Sound Settings to fix that, at least initially. You need to go to Recording>Mic>Properties>Advanced and make sure that the settings there are the same as in Playback>Speakers>Properties>Advanced.
