Hi,
about a month ago Audition stopped playing files. You can load them, they show the wave form, but will not play. At the same time the computer stopped playing audio. Again, they show up in whatever media player and this time appear to be playing - but there is no sound. Even in premier, the graphic says noise is being made, but there is no sound. I have now uninstalled and reinstalled the Tascam 122ii countless times, indeed, I even bought a new one, but nothing happens. For most audio playing it's almost as though the speakers just weren't plugged in (they are, of course), but the fact that Audition refuses to even appear to play files suggests something deeper.
Any ideas?

Are you on a PC or a Mac? Basically whatever is going on (or not in this case) is to do with the installation of the Tascam and it's drivers. So you will have to get that working with your OS before Audition can have any chance of seeing it. If it is a USB interface try it in a different USB socket on the computer. If the computer can't see it then Audition won't either. If Tascam provide ASIO drivers make sure that they are installed and selected in Auditor's Audio Hardware set up page.

PC.
The computer sees the Tascam. It has been uninstalled and then reinstalled half a dozen times - in fact, I even bought a new unit. Doesn't matter. Computer sees it, says it is working properly, but there is no sound and Audition can't play anything.

have you checked everything in Audition's Audio Hardware preferences page. What do you see there? If possible post a screen grab here for us to take a look at.

I am editing video and tried to render and replace in Audition. No files will play. This is unworkable. If Adobe won't fix the issue, Logic and Pro Tools will.If any Adobe experts are there please reply

You can't render and replace directly in Audition - you have to do the round trip, and do the replace in Premiere.
But if you've got audio open in Audition, and the transport won't work, then it will be because it is disconnected from your sound device - for any one of a number of reasons, all heavily involving Microsoft, if you're using an internal one on a PC. These problems tend to evaporate completely if you use an external device using (if it's a PC) ASIO. The situation on Macs is a little different, and as far as I can make out, not so much of an issue.
