Audition can't record system audio, Windows 11, ThinkPad X1 Extreme. What shall I do?
The Camtasia screen capture software can record computer audio.
Thanks!

On many machines this is deliberately inhibited by the manufacturer, usually by an OS policy request, but it can also be dug in deeper than that. The solution I use, which takes a somewhat different approach, is to use SoundTap (it's a streaming audio recorder - other similar apps are available). This sets up an internal link to whatever is streaming and records it directly - it will also let you add a mic stream to the recording, although I don't use that.

Thank you!
but I acturally installed new system - it is not the original windows 11 installed on machine when I buy it. and evenmore, days ago, I upgraded the system into Windows 11 preview version. During those days under windows 11 preview, I could record system audio by using Audition successfully.
However, there are some other issue with the preview version (I guess), so i re-install back to normal Windows 11. Audition doesn't work on system audio again.
I tried to repeat what I found by installing two systems on my ThinkPad X1 Exteme Gen 5: Windows 11 and Windows 11 Preview. Audition doesn't work on both systems. I cannot find out what is difference between the preview I am using now and being used days ago.

It's quite simple; if you can't find, in your audio input setup on Windows, a recording input option that says something like 'what you hear', then basically you're stuffed - that's when you have to go down the streaming audio route - which is almost certainly what Camtasia does. It's definitely not an Audition issue - it's the OS that for whatever reason is not making it available.
I don't understand why anybody would put Windows 11 on a machine voluntarily - it's a lot like jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft with a parachute!

I confirmed it is the same problem on Windows 10.
Anyway, it is over my ability. Thank you very much!

Oh, you already provided the solution - i installed SoundTap and then Audition can record system audio perfectly.
I tried to uninstall SoundTap and try to use Audition. It can record system audio with extremely low volume.

There are two Dolby objects there normally - refer to picture above please. After I install SoundTap, one of Dolby will disappear. Even I uninstall SoundTap, there is only one Dolby object there. And under that environment, I can record system audio on Audition.
At this moment, when I record voice outside of computer, this volume is much lower than it should be.
However, if I do Windows updating, and two Dolby would be installed back. I cannot record system audio again.
