Audition waveform only records in milliseconds before stopping itself

I recently bought a new XLR mic and M-Audio Duo interface to start voice recording. I have everything hooked in properly and I can hear myself in the mic, but when I try to record in Audition, using the waveform, it only records for a few milliseconds then stops.
