Beginning of words being dropped or eliminated

After I finish recording, upon playback the beginning of some words or even entirity of small words ("an" "on" "of") are very faint or gone completely. I *think* I notice it usually happens after some brief pause in speech, for example after a breath. I am not running a "de-breath" effect, only a denoise effect. Any ideas about what is causing this and what I can do to fix it?

Well, DeNoise will do that, because it's adaptive. You might want to consider one of the other NR tools. The best one to use is the original NR that requires you to take a noise sample first, and apply that several times, using different FFT sizes, and only removing a small amount at a time. But if you want to stick with DeNoise, then it's worth experimenting with different settings; don't rely on the rather basic presets.

Thanks, Steve, I appreciate that. But between my post and your reply I decided to just try a "dry run" recording with no plug-ins or effects. I'm still experiencing the issue. I'm consulting a friend of mine for help also, but if you think you have anymore recommendations or troubleshooting advice, please by all means provide it. I have zero experience in sound engineering/editing so I'm sure this must amount to "user error", I'm just can't figure out what the error is!

For a start, we'd need to know exactly what your recording chain is...
