Berhinger UM2 ASIO not recording

New Here ,
Apr 14, 2020 Apr 14, 2020

Hello all,

I'm brand new here, so thank you for the support.

I have an MXL 770 running through a Berhinger UM2 to my Windows 10 PC. I think part of the problem is that  I generally run all my audio through my Schiit DAC and headphone amp to monitors - playback seems to be an issue. However, there was one instance where there appeared to be a recording, but on playback, there was only static, rhythmic static at best. I've included some screenshots.

Again, thanks for any help!

A couple of things: Firstly, you aren't running Behringer's ASIO driver - you are running ASIO4ALL which is a completely different kettle of fish. If you've installed the Behringer 64-bit driver package, you should have, as well as the ASIO4ALL driver, the actual Behringer one, and that's the one you should be using; it should be in the same list as ASIO4ALL - just select that instead.

Secondly, there's one slight snag to ASIO if you want to use more than one physical sound device, and that is basically that you can't do it. The ASIO spec gives you much reduced latency, but it does this by punching a hole clean through your operating system, and only one device at a time can do this. But you should get on fine using the Behringer for playback as well - it's a perfectly capable device.

So initially, try to get the proper ASIO driver working, and if you have any more difficulty, report back.

There's a video about the UM2 drivers and their installation here. It's not specifically about Audition, but the setup for ASIO is the same.

SteveG, thank you.

I've attached more images to help illustrate my confusion.

There are only 2 options other than the ASIO4All driver download.

I've downloaded "All software" and opening the zip file brings me to the above choices: Audacity or Podcast. None of these have a recognizable 64-bit driver package.

I did a bit of checking - seems that there's a lot of discontent about this. Behringer removed the original ASIO driver and replaced it with the ASIO4ALL one which is rather less satisfactory - mainly because it's not really a driver but an interface to the 'normal' Windows driver. Somebody's done some research though and found the original driver that was removed, and posted it elsewhere. Now I can't tell you absolutely that you should try this - but I have to say that I can't see what harm it will do either. Anyway, the link to it is here: Behringer 64-bit ASIO driver If it works okay, it will be a lot better than what looks like a half-working ASIO4ALL one.

Incidentally, there's nothing actually wrong with ASIO4ALL - for many situations it's a useful driver because it provides diagnostics. But it certainly doesn't come from Behringer... ASIO4ALL homepage
