Can't register Audition 3.0 [Locked. Audition 3.0 cannot be registered or activated anymore]

I installed Audition 3.0 because I have closed my Adobe account except for Photoshop. When I boot Audition 3.0 it asks me to register. I can't register by Internet or Phone. How do I get it registered? I am furious that I can't register it. If you don't allow me to register this software, I will go on a forum rant all over the planet recommending we cancel our accounts and use other software.

First of all, this isn't the appropriate forum for this post. I'll be moving it to the Account, Payment & Plan forum momentarily.

Second of all, you do not state whether you have a subscription to Audition or not. If you don't, you obviously won't be able to register it. If you do, you will have to contact Customer Support about your registration issue. This is a public forum, not Adobe support. Users, including the ACPs and MVPs, can't provide support for account, subscription, billing, download, or product activation issues. Support for those issues requires an Adobe employee.

Click the following to contact Adobe customer support staff for help:

https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/support.html

You must be signed in with your Adobe ID and allow cookies in your web browser for this to work.

This is the link to the US website. If you are not in the US, the site should redirect to the page appropriate to the region associated with your ID.

Click the chat icon at the bottom right of the page to open a chat session. Typing AGENT into the chat window should connect you directly to a CSR rather than the AI.

If the CSR refers you to the forums, insist on speaking with a supervisor and keep moving up the chain until you get someone who knows what they are talking about.

You can also search for Adobe customer support using your favorite search engine. This will normally provide you with a regionally appropriate phone number that you can use.

Be aware that because of the pandemic, wait times are far longer than usual due to reduced staff and higher demand. Please be patient with the people to whom you speak. Like you, they are feeling a great deal of stress. A little patience and understanding will go a long way to helping you in your particular situation.

Audition 3 is end-of-life.  The registration & activation servers are gone.  I'm sorry to say there is no possible way to activate your aged-out software.  Nobody here or at Adobe support can help you.  It's a shame you didn't investigate this before you cancelled your subscription.  Alternatives do exist.  For example, Audacity is open source.

I do have a little sympathy for John's predicament - it really isn't that easy any more to find the relevant posts about this, especially if you didn't realise that you needed to. This is in part because the FAQs are all part of an enormous flat forum structure that really isn't that easy to search.

And yes, I created an FAQ about it, at the time all of this originally broke - which was in 2012 - eight years ago. It's here. And it was modified again when Adobe withdrew, apparently on legal advice, the alternative version that could be installed by anybody, regardless of whether they were entitled to or not.

As far as going on a rant around the world is concerned, feel free, John. But don't be too surprised if any number of people point out that there's loads of software you can't register any more - a lot of it from Microsoft, for instance; whole operating systems...

I should also point out that Audacity isn't really a replacement for Audition, because its Multitrack capability is very limited.

I also have sympathy for legacy Creative Suite users but John's attitude leaves something to be desired.  Afterall, we don't work for Adobe.  We have no influence over Adobe EOL policies.  And we sure as heck don't get paid for being here.

I installed it, but is asks me to register it. I can't get it registered. It says the server is no longer active, and the phone activation is no longer working. How do I get it registered without having an attorney get involved? This really pisses me off. On to Affinity Photo if I can't get this s**t activated. I have already cancelled my Adobe account except for Photoshop. Adios Photoshop if I can't get Audition activated.

Oh come on, John - you've got an attorney? Well, your attorney's going to cost you several years of subscriptions to CC... 😉

You can't get it activated or registered anymore because, as Nancy said above, the activation servers are gone. They are probably on a scrapheap. The equipment wore out and it wasn't possible to update the activation software to work on modern systems. No hardware lasts forever and it is often impossible to get old software to work on modern systems because the old software requires chipsets and processors that don't exist anymore.

I am locking this thread, as it is pointless to allow it to continue.
