Capturing Noise Print generates a 'severe error' warning (Code 00000008)

Community Beginner ,
Apr 21, 2017 Apr 21, 2017

Installed the April 2017 release of Audition CC today, but when trying to capture a noise print, it is generating an error.

Shift+P works to capture the noise print before Shift+Cmd+P to open Noise Reduction, however when clicking the playhead away from the current time selection the noise print is lost and an error is generated. Using 'Capture Noise Print' button in NR dialog still generates the error. And then pressing spacebar to play the track crashes the program consistently.

Is there a fix or do I need to wait for Adobe to fix?

Hi somekiwiguy, ChristyRussellStudio,

I am sorry for the issue. It seems like an issue with Preferences. Resetting Preferences will resolve the issue.

Please follow the steps below.

1. Quit Audition

2. Go to the following location:

          In Windows: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Audition\10.0

          In Mac: <drive>/Users/<username>Library/Preferences/Adobe/Audition/10.0

3. rename the folder 10.0 to Old_10.0, launch Audition & check the issue.

Please let us know the status of the issue.

Clicking on the presets in the noise reduction plugin and selecting "default" solved the problem for me - except that it keeps resetting my settings. But I can live with that as long my trusty noise reduction plugin is back in business

Sorry, but resetting all my preferences isn't an acceptable solution to this problem.

I tried switching the Noise Reduction preset to "Default" as nv_audio suggested, and that seemed to work and allow me to use the noise reduction. This should've been the fix suggested by Adobe, not wiping out all our preferences.

Perhaps you've not noticed that there's been quite a bit of discussion on this Audition forum concerning this issue.  You'll be pleased to know that the Audition staff have acknowledged the bug, and you can be certain that in due time a trusty patch will be issued.  Nobody is offering this as a permanent solution, only as a temporary one.

Ok Adobe, time is ticking on, is there any sign of a fix?

Could those of us who rely on Audition for our day to day business operation expect some kind of rebate on this month's CC fee? The product, since the last update, is clearly no longer fit for purpose.

Frustration levels rising. Nuked preferences as advised, and bug still exists. Today, working on 96/24 source materials.

Crashes as soon as I try to apply the Noise Reduction profile.

Any word on when this will be fixed? I've changed the folder name from 10.0 to Old_10.0 and I'm still getting the same problem

Adobe doesn't tell us when updates will be released, but perhaps you missed their announcement that they ARE working on one.  No doubt they'll put it through beta testing and whatever usual paces they typically do so nothing else gets messed up!  But that doesn't happen overnight.

Just watch for CC updates.

I feel your pain but the rollback has worked well for me.

Hi there,

I tried renaming 10.0 preferences and it worked for one file, then, I was optimizing a second file and Audition crashed. I tried again and made sure not to import any preferences at all... still crashes.

When Noise Reduction has 0% for noise reduction percentage and 1dB for Reduce by amount, that's when it always crashes. If it has my preset of 50% and 5dB, it always works.

Any other ideas?

James

Then don't use those settings in Audition's Noise Reduction since they aren't actually valid for doing anything useful. Even so Audition shouldn't crash with those values. However it doesn't crash Audition on my installation on a Win7 64bit PC.

ryclark, I'm not saying that I use those settings or that's what's causing the crash. I have the noise reduction preset to 50% noise reduction and 5dB reduced, which has always remained the same for my VO edits (unless I manually change it). I started seeing those values change to the previously mentioned values after the most recent update with Adobe. I have always changed them back to what I prefer... and Adobe crashes. My point was that when those settings appear in the noise reduction panel, I know that if I run noise reduction (with any values added), Audition will crash. That has been true for the last few weeks.

I was able to fix the issue by renaming the preferences folder to old_10.0 however, the next day (today), i'm back to the same issue.  Should I be deleting the other 10.0 folder in preferences - and how about he 8.0, 9.0?  Need to get this all figured out asap - like everyone else, I'm sure.

Thanks for the support.

Justin, please look at my reply above from 4/27.  Renaming that folder is only a partial fix as you experienced.  A rollback to the previous version is your only option for smooth sailing, and don't lose that preference folder backup, you're going to need it!
