Question

Cleaning up bad audio files

I had microphone issues as you can hear from the attached video.  I have spent hours in Audition trying to clean it up, but can't seem to find a good fix. Does anyone know what settings would work with this?  Seems to me this would be a simple frequency fix or hiss reduction. However, ever time I try it deepens the sound to such an extent it is harder to understand.  Any advice is both needed and appreciated!

Please let me know if the link does not work.

Thanks

Unfortunately that appears to have been distorted early on in the recording process, probably even in the first stages of the microphone preamplifier. Was the mic plugged straight into your video camera or was it a wireless mic? Whatever it was the recording level has been set too high and, unfortunately, there isn't unusual anything much you can do to get any decent audio back I'm afraid.

No - I'm afraid that there's no fix for that, or any other kind of distortion really - you can't repair it because you have no reference to what it should have sounded like... and having had a look at the file in Audition now, the recording itself isn't clipped - so the excess gain did indeed have to be before the actual recording process, as ryclark suggests.

Whenever you make a recording like this, somebody should be monitoring the sound on headphones - this fault would have been pretty obvious, I think,

All I get from your link is 'This video is unavailable'.
