crashing when applying noise reduction

Community Beginner ,
Apr 26, 2017 Apr 26, 2017

I do a normalize process, multiband compressor process, capture a noise print, so far so good. then apply the noise reduction which causes audition to hang and then crash. This just started with the latest update of cc. I've uninstalled the program and then reinstalled it and it didn't fix the problem. Is anyone else having this problem?

I'm going to copy and paste this again because not everybody is seeing the most helpful posts.

If, like me, you HAVE to have Noise Reduction working, you're going to need to revert to the previous version.

To revert

- You MUST back up your settings folder as a rollback will delete it!  Find your settings folder at the path above and make a safety copy of it all.  Put it somewhere so you can restore it after this rollback as well as later once the upcoming bug patch is released!  Don't merely move o

If you read through most of the recent threads on this Forum you will find that yes unfortunately lots of people seem to be coming across this bug. But not all by any means.

I have exact same issue. Moment I try apply or play back the noise print, boom instant crash! WTF!

- You MUST back up your settings folder as a rollback will delete it!  Find your settings folder at the path above and make a safety copy of it all.  Put it somewhere so you can restore it after this rollback as well as later once the upcoming bug patch is released!  Don't merely move or allow deletion - this is one worth having multiple copies of if you've been using Audition for any length of time at all.  Once that's done and your precious presets are safe, now for the fun:

- Open the Creative Cloud desktop app

- Click the "Apps" tab

- Scroll down to "Find additional apps" and directly to the right you'll see a filter toggle labelled "All Apps."  Click this.

- The last entry at the very bottom of this list is "View Previous Versions."  Click that.

- Scroll down until you see "Audition."

- Select "CC(2017) 10.0.2" and when the confirmation dialog box comes up, click "Yes, install this version."

- Sit back and wait for installation.

- Enjoy!

- When the CC App tells you there's an update available for Audition, DON'T install it until something newer than the 2017.1 release (version 10.1.0.174) becomes available!

Thank you for your response. I did the third suggestion, which was already submitted,  and it worked.

Unfortunately, this roll back hasn't solved the issue for me. I'm going to try rolling it back further.

That's very troubling.  And I'm really sorry to hear that.  It should only take rolling back one version as we can assure you it's not affected (I was using it successfully the day before the bad release).

I wonder if you still have some corrupted presets (rename the prefs folder with "old" or "safe" added to the name so Audition has to make a fresh copy) or if the CC app is updating Audition back to the bad version (it's still in their queue, sad to say) without you knowing it.  I'm still getting update notifications and have to keep ignoring them until Adobe publishes a new version.

Option 3 is the only one that worked. Always good to know Adobe tests their new updates for new bugs before they release it.

Thank you for this solution. Rolling back worked for me. Noise reduction is what I use Audition for the most, so having it crash immediately upon applying the effect makes the latest version useless.

Anyone.. anyone... Adobe.  Are you listening?  Every update breaks an existing feature.  This is ridiculous.  Please don't add any new features if you can't keep the existing ones working.

The "See previous versions" option does not appear for me, not for any of the programs including Premiere and After Effects. That leaves me no options?!

Dan, do you have the CC desktop app up-to-date?  At the top there's Home - Apps - Assets - Stock - Community, and if you click Apps, there should be Latest Versions (under which is UPDATES and INSTALLED), and if you scroll down, "PREVIOUS VERSIONS" and "FIND ADDITIONAL APPS."  It's counterintuitive 'cause you don't use "previous versions", but you need to click "FIND ADDITIONAL APPS" and then change the "filter" to the right of it.  So click on that toggle and you should see "All apps / graphic design / illustration" etc., and at the very bottom in blue "VIEW PREVIOUS VERSIONS."  Then at long long last the list of Adobe apps there will include Audition, and if you click the "Install" button - which is NOT actually an install button, shame on them - you'll get a list of 8 currently available previous versions.

Dear Music Conductor:

I've read your repost many times. I've followed ALL of the instructions at least half a dozen times. When I click "FIND ADDITIONAL APPS", "VIEW PREVIOUS VERSIONS" does not appear in the list. Nowhere. It simply does not exist.

Have you clicked on the blue writing on the right of Find Additional Apps which, I think defaults to All Apps, to show the dropdown menu? View Previous Versions is at the bottom of that dropdown menu.

Yes. Yes. Yes. All of the above. When I click "All Apps", the dropdown menu appears. The items on the list are as follows:

Filter apps by (In a small gray font)

(In a larger, black, bold font)

All Apps

Graphic design

Illustration

Photography

Video

Mobile and web

That is all. No "VIEW PREVIOUS VERSIONS"!!!

It ought to be in capital letters in blue below that list. Very odd.

Nicely done.  So that design leaves a lot to be desired (IMHO) because the blue lettering doesn't appear to belong in that list.

Kevin, thank you for an "official" weigh-in here, much appreciated.  However, as noted elsewhere, the procedures outlined in that article could mislead someone into permanently disposing of all of their custom presets, and with no recourse.  It would make more sense, if using options 2 or 3, to instruct the user to back up the file or rename it with "old" in the filename or something like that.  And actually, to back up the entire Audition folder before rolling back.  Says one who recently lost all his customizations while rolling back...
