Hearing both XLR mic and computer mic while recording

Help! I'm so frustrated.

While recording, I'm hearing both my XLR mic and my built-in computer mic through my headphones. My XLR is running through a CEntrance Micport Pro, then connecting to my computer via USB. I can record using my XLR, and I can listen back to it, but while I'm recording I'm hearing audio from both mics, which is very distracting and echo-y.

I'm recording in multitrack. I've tried plugging my headphones in to my CEntrance as well as the computer. I've tried all variations on the audio hardware settings / headphone placement. I get rid of the echo, but then I can't hear any playback. I can cleanly record and play back, but while I'm recording I'm hearing both mics. I selected my CEntrance in my MIDI settings for both sound input and output.

I've been chatting with customer support for over an hour, and they had me reset my audition settings, but the same thing is happening. I'm on an older iMac, and when I record on my laptop I don't have this issue.

Ah, got it figured it out. The echo wasn't coming from my computer mic. Smart monitoring was enabled, so all I had to do was unclick that box. Preferences -> Multitrack -> disable smart monitoring.
