Edit>Preferences. Initially go to Audio Hardware and make sure that your audio device is selected. Then go to Audio Channel Mapping, and make sure it's selected there as well.

Also if you are trying to record onto a track in the Multitrack view you will have to check that you have the correct Layla channel selected for recording on that track. You should see all the Layla channels available where mine says '(01M) ESI U24 1/2:L' etc.

If it's a Layla, then you need to be using the ASIO driver (Audio Stream Input/Output). It reduces the latency, and it's the only way you'll get more than two very basic channels available to you when you suddenly realise that it's all working, and that it's more than just your voice you want to record...

Oh, and good on you for refusing to fail!

Can you post a screen grab of your Audition Audio Hardware preferences panel so we can see what you have available?

You can upload pictures directly to this page - there's an 'insert image' button at the top of the reply screen (in the middle).

Can't see any pictures... you have to click on this button:

insert picture.JPG

and then you'll get a pop-up box like this:

insert picture 2.JPG

Where you can browse and select the image you want to upload. Then you click on the box at the bottom saying 'Insert Image', and the file from your computer will be uploaded, and appear like these ones above have. To get the screen-grabs (assuming it's a PC you are using) you go to Programs>Windows Accessories, and you'll find one called 'Snipping Tool' which allows you to select a bit of the screen you want to snip, and lets you save it as a .jpg file, which you can select and post directly, as I've just indicated.

Yes, that is a bit self-referential!
