How do I transfer multitrack sessions between computers?

Hello,

I have just recently started using Audition CC 2015 to record guitar and vocal tracks. I recorded a session using my laptop and would now like to transfer it to my desktop, however I am struggling.

I have tried exporting the audio in an .sesx file (including the audio tracks), however when I import them into my Desktop's version (the same edition), I am met with older tracks I've previously recorded and none of the new files are showing up. I have manually selected the files in the pop up window that came when I opened the .sesx file, but that didn't work.

Could somebody please help me to open my project on the new PC?

Is there a way of completely removing older tracks (I have tried uninstalling and deleting the Adobe folder).

Thanks.

The session file only contains the information about the files to include in the session, and where they go. What you have to do is make sure that the audio files are in the same folder as the session file, and importantly, make sure that the final save of the session file references the actual files in the folder, which will give a relative path to them rather than an absolute one.

The problem you are likely to have is that you've done a session file save, and then moved the files. If you do that, the session file will have no idea of where they are!

I'll just add to what SteveG said...
The sesx file will contain both an absolute path and a relative path so this can be a bit of a trap if you are not careful.

What this means is that even if you export a multitrack session and include the media as well there will be an absolute path to those media files in the sesx.  So if you then copy the session somewhere else that absolute path will still be there and that is where Audition will look for the media first and if they are not there then Audition will try the relative path. For example

<file absolutePath="E:\Suite Spot Studios\Zoe Playlist\Zoe Playlist_Recorded\Track 1_001.wav" id="0" mediaHandler="AmioWav" relativePath="Zoe Playlist_Recorded/Track 1_001.wav"/>

If this sesx is copied to say the D drive Audition will STILL open the media on the E drive (if it still exists) if not it will look in the relative path (which is below the folder containing the sesx
Make sense?

I have felt for a while that there should be an extra checkbox in the Save dialog which gives you the option to force the session file to look in a specific place for the files, and not revert to the absolute path. This is simply because as it stands, the system clearly isn't foolproof.

I agree.  In the early days I got caught wondering why it was that even though I had copied the session to another location I was still working on files from the original location
