I recently purchased a Zoom SSH-6 shotgun stereo microphone, a very special mic that lets you record in a raw format and decide how much stereo/peripheral sound you want to include - when you're working on the mix later.
This is great for me - because as a reporter, I don't always know when peripheral sounds will conflict with the sound of the main person I'm interviewing. But I want the OPTION to include the ambient sounds.
However, the mic requires a VST to process the raw file.
When I download it, it's a .dll file, which is not a VST - and Adobe doesn't recognize it as a VST to open. I have never worked with VSTs in Audition before, so I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
Does anyone know how to close the loop on this - so that I can process the raw SSH-6 signal?

Thats an MS mic - you can decode it with a plug-in or, clunkily, by using 3 faders with a phase invert on one.

VST effects plugins for the PC are all .dlls. You need to copy the 64 bit version from the .zip file into "C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins\ZOOM MS Decoder 64bit.dll". Then after you open Audition go to Effects/Audio Plugin Manager and make sure that the above path is included in the folder list and Scan for plugins. The Zoom Decoder should appear in the list. Then to use it go to Effects/VST and you should be able to open the effect from the list.

Should add that there's nothing special about the Zoom plugin - there are plenty of better ones around, that also include 'shuffler' effects, meaning that you can vary the amount of width of a signal at different frequencies. If you are recording interviews in crowded places, then sometimes being able to 'shape' the ambient noise can help.
