How to fix lag in seeing gain effect?

I just started using Audition CC 2018 and noticed a large  change from Audition CS6.  In particular, when I use the heads-up display (HUD) to lower gain in a section, it will sometimes not show the result in real time.  It's only after I've raised or lowered the gain and release the controller that the change is shown.  Previously, I could watch the section fall or rise in real time; this lag is annoying and really makes the HUD control useless.  It also doesn't happen all the time.  Another quick issue that could be related is that I can't cleanly insert audio from another file with fidelity.  Audition either leaves some of the old sound I wanted to replace or cuts off some of the new sound I want to insert.

Any help would be very much appreciated!!!

One thing you could try is either turning on or off (depending upon what it's currently set to) the hardware acceleration:

This can sometimes have a significant effect on visual performance.

As for the other problem - I'm not so sure it's related at all. I think we'd need rather more details about exactly what you're trying to achieve (in terms of timing) before we could tie that down...

Thanks, first, for the hardware acceleration suggestion; I will test that out.

The second issue occurs because, frankly, I'm not great with automating out things that need fixing, like plosives.  I've saved some sounds that are hand-edited and corrected plosives (like a hard P).  In my prior version of Audition, I could simply copy that sound, highlight the trouble-some plosive in a new file, and insert the edited sound.  Worked like a charm.  Now it doesn't fully delete all of the sound I want to replace, particularly at the beginning (which is where the trouble starts, clearly).  All of the highlighted area that should simply go away when I insert the replacement section doesn't go away. (Sorry for the lack of technical prowess here...I started with Cool Edit many moons ago and am not schooled in audio engineering as much as I would like).

Two things: Firstly make sure that the default times in Preferences>Data haven't been altered - the 'smooth delete/cut boundaries with crossfades' should be 2ms, and the 'smooth all edit boundaries by crossfading' should be 5ms. Having larger times in there will materially affect the results of short inserts. You don't want the settings any lower though, or you'll potentially run into 'click' problems.

The second thing is that if you are using the 'replace' method of fixing pops, etc, you will almost certainly get on better by using Mix Paste rather than just pasting, as you get a lot more options with what happens. I think that most of them don't need explaining, but if you continue to have difficulties, then come back and ask...
